The $10 Voodoo 2 Build
11.02.09 at 00:50:18

I recently found an old "computer case" at a Goodwill thrift store. It was ten dollars and actually had a motherboard and CPU, but missing a hard drive and RAM, and it all worked!

So I got to thinking, what can I do with some parts I have laying around? Here's the results so far, the goal is to get a good Voodoo 2 system going.

Temporary specs, using spare parts:
DVD drive from IBM desktop
Acer CD drive
Random floppy drive
3.2GB WD Cavier drive from old clone pc
ESS Audiodrive ISA card
3Com Ethernet from old server
3DFX Voodoo3 3000 AGP
200w PSU from Gateway 2000
128mb IBM PC100 RAM
Gigabyte GA-6BA Mobo (early PCB, hates V3 cards)
400Mhz Pentium II

So I scrounged up some red spray paint, why not?

And, of course, what better way to top it off than a sweet black vinyl 3DFX logo?  Grin

The case badge says it all... now to get the actual parts for the machine!

Yea, I thought this was a $10 Voodoo 2 build?!

I think that stencil on the side looks really good. Where did you get the little 3dfx badge?

Well, I only spent $10 to actually get the machine... all the rest of the parts were from my closet and I have a Voodoo 2 (somewhere?), but am getting some cosmetics done first. So, in effect it should be about $10 for a nice machine! Not counting what I paid for the decals... those came from http://www.shadowmajik.com/

Updates:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3245/3289085370_fa389b454e.jpgv=0

-Added ATI Mach64 2MB for 2D card
-Got a Voodoo 2 PCI card, not sure if it's 8MB or 12MB as of yet but I'm thinking 12
-Thought of SLIing, but ran out of space (RAM in the way)
-Upgraded HDD to WD 10GB
-Changed sound card to Sound Blaster 16 ISA card
-Changed network card to newer D-Link card
-Changed processor to Pentium II 400Mhz (was actually a Celeron 450Mhz in previous post)

EDIT: It's a 12MB V2-1000

if the card has empty memory positions on the backside, its 8MB.
