Title: TFT Monitor Out Of Range ... PERMANENTLY!
Post by janskjaer on 16.08.05 at 20:06:21
I have a 14" TFT Monitor branded by PROVIEW.

I have a system which had a Creative 3D Blaster PCI (Rendition Verite 1000) graphics card, which has been causing problems starting only today.  The new drivers installed would not let me use any other resolution but 640x480 for games.  It kept saying the monitor was out of range when trying to use resolutions like 320x240, 400x300, 512x384 and 600x400.  This has not been a problem since only today.

I used to be able to change my desktop resolutions between 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768.  However, that started to play up and say the monitor was out of range when trying to use 1024x768!

I proceeded to reboot the PC after the monitor would not display an image.  When I rebooted, the screen was blank, yet I could here the machine beeping through its usual boot cycle and the sounds playing when Windows automatically logs on.

After trying to get an image by turning the monitor on and off and rebooting, eventually another out of range message appeared, stating the resolution was set at 700x240.  This now stays on all the time, and there is no image on the monitor.

I tried replacing the graphics card with a 3dfx Voodoo3 AGP, but I still get the same message.  I even tried the monitor on a totally different system, yet still I receive the same out of range message.  :(

How can I fix this?  ???

... caused by the monitor's power cable not being inserted fully into the transformer/adapter.  Goddammit!  ;D

Solved it now.  ;)

I still have no idea how an unproperly plugged POWER cable can give as an outcome some resolution limitations...

Also watch out for such things 'couse It could have been an immediate monitor-burning-disaster, not just some operating restrictions.
Thankgod you were lucky, anyway no offense let this be a useful lesson for you.

all you folks: Treat your hardware with care and love!

Don't worry, there is no burning, and there won't be either.  ;D  The monitor is working perfect as usual.  8)

I simply put it down to one of the pins in the power AC adapter being slightly disconnected, causing a daft error message of 'out of range'.  :-/

Either way, the Rendition Verite 1000 has come out now as it was causing far too many problems in Windows 98. 2000 and XP were fine with the card.

Using 98 SE over the past few days, really has brought a lot of memories back, particularly bad and frustrating ones!  >:(

Now I remember why I was really glad to see the back of 98 SE when 2000 came along.  ;)

yeps, 2K is very promissing, indeed, still I never had big probs with 98SE with the Un-Official SP2.02 ;) my 8 year old K6-2 is running Win98SE NL with UO SP2.02 for 3 mounths now, before that it was running with sp1.6 for about 2 years, without hickups.
