V2 is not detected by apps
21.06.14 at 10:36:09

I stuffed an STB V2 into a PCI slot as usual and started my Windows XP. The card got detected by the OS and I installed drivers, but no applications see my card. It says "The device is working properly" in the Device Manager. I tried new drivers and that didn't help... Any ideas? Actually this is the first time I've encountered such an error Sad

What are those "applications"? Under XP Voodoo2 can accelerate only glide and opengl, there's no suport for direct3d. Also the application must support fullscreen.

Any ones which require Glide, mainly games.

Proofs? I was able to launch some Direct3D games in XP once, AFAIR.

In that case you probably had some special drivers, it's possible, I can't say no. Or you had a main videocard that supports d3d and the game ran on that card.

if Wikipedia is right for once, voodoo2 had:

Support for game development tools including Gemini OpenGVS, Multigen, GameGen, SGI Open GL, Glide, Direct 3D, Mini GL and Autodesk 3D Studio under DOD, Win 32 and IRIX

The only driver with Direct3D support under XP is LegendgrafiX.

i would recommend you to use any Voodoo cards under Windows 98SE, 98 or 95 for older Voodoo1, 2 or 3 cards. Because almost, if not all games, using Glide were designed to be used on Windows 9x only.

But yes there is a driver for WinXP, like Tgod said.

Re-ran Turok yesterday.
First it said "3DFX Graphics DLL initialized" and after a while the following message popped out:

"GlideInitEnviroment: glide2x.dll expects Voodoo^2, none detected".

How can it get initialized and then found to be absent simultaneously??????????!!!!

One thing directly contradicts the other one...

I can't install them. That's a Q9650 with a 3TB HDD.

Or you had a main videocard that supports d3d and the game ran on that card.

I know that sometimes happens, but not in my PC.
Besides, that can be adjusted via the Start button. My Direct3D card is detected as "Direct3D Device 1" in
NFS 3, for example. There's a menu created every time I install an old game, the name is like "3D device setup" or something...
And to make sure that a 3DFX card is on, one can just set a resolution it doesn't support (AFAIK, 1024x768 for a non-SLI Voodoo 2, for example)... There are some ways, so what you said is clearly ruled out.
