Reworked AALCHEMY 8232SB machine running W2K.  Replaced the original dual Pentium 3 1.0 Ghz CPUs and motherboard with a Soyo P4S Dragon motherboard and Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz CPU.  Also has Geforce 4 TI4600 for primary graphics and 1 GB of DDR RAM.  Added extensions for power and front panel switches.  It has been awhile since I benchmarked it, but if I recall, it was significantly faster than a V5 6000 running Quake 3 with identical AA settings.  I managed to get every OpenGL game I own from the 1997 - 2002 era to run on the AALCHEMY Card.  Sad thing is, the Geforce 4 is actually faster than the AALCHEMY card.

Looks very nice. No issues running on a P4?

I have a Dual Core 6700 with a ATI PCIe 2600XT. It has 3 PCI slots...

My Mercury was very fussy about going faster the 700MHz.

For exxe:

I forgot I had UT99.   I just installed it and patched to V4.36.  The only way to get it to work is to use the wickedGL mini driver.  If you don't already have the latest WickedGL switcher utility installed, download it from Falconfly.de and install it.  Once it's installed, you'll need to modify the wglgames.cfg file located in \Program Files\Metabyte\WickedGL by adding the following lines:

"Unreal",unreal.exe,opengl32.dll
"Unreal Tournament",UnrealTournament.exe,opengl32.dll

IMPORTANT: you will need to delete two of the other entries because the switcher will crash when you try to run it.  It's a max line limit of some sort.  Once that is all squared away, run the WickedGL installer and select UT from the list.  Then select the \system folder in the Unreal Tournament install directory.  Click install hi-res version and you should be good to go.

Switch the renderer to OpenGL in the UT preferences and then frag away.  I tested with the training mode and it looks to be good.  Very smooth at 1280 x 1024:)

For gamma742:

No issues at all with the P4.  The 1 gHz P3s were starving this card severely.  I knew all this silicon could do better.  I was a bit worried at first with whether the 8232 would like the Soyo mobo.  I know this board is considered safe to use with the V5 6000, so I figured I couldn't do much damage.  Just to be safe, I install W2K in the box without the 8232 board installed.  When it came time to do the deed, I was quick to get the drivers installed and run the Q3D logo test.  I was shocked when the frame count @ 1280 x 1024 shot up to 240 fps.  My jaw dropped to the floor when I saw the benchmarks for Quake 3.  When compared to the benchmarks on Gary's site, this thing destroyed the V5 6000.  I don't have the numbers handy, but it was at least 50% faster with the same detail settings.  I just did a fresh install of W2K, so I don't have Q3 loaded up yet.

Of course, all system configs are different and the only way to have a fair face off is if someone donated a V5 6000 to me to perform testing!  Anyone???  It was worth a shot.

I like these Acryl cases very much, too bad they're radiating the crap out of their owner when in operation...

Here's my list of working OGL games on the Aalchemy:

GLQuake
Quake 2
Quake 3
Hexen II
Heretic II
Unreal
Unreal Tournament
Daikatana
Half Life

I bet any OGL game that is compatible with the WickedGL driver will work.  There's also a trick where you can copy the the full up Aalchemy OpenGL driver file (Q3dSglG3.dll) or the 3dfxOGL.dll file from the winnt/system32 directory into the appropriate game folder and rename it.  It took a bunch of trial and error to find what worked best.  The WickedGL driver was the fastest of all three.

Also, the Aalchemy is Glide 3 compatible.  So if anyone has a list of games that will run using Glide 3, then those should work as well.

I know only about three games that use glide3x natively:

diablo2
hitman1
turok2 (not 100% sure about this one)

Turok2 worked nice using AAlchemy system.

Just a quick note-

1) The Wicked driver will introduce some rendering errors in some games if you look for them. Noted it mostly in Quake 3.

2) AAlchemy rigs with SLI will not play any games except GLQuake with Wicked driver.

more good news

Quote:
Hiero at va forums
so gibt neues:

Hank says that the normal v5 6k driver can run a aalchemy with some small changes
and later hiero say he can use 32x AA on a sli config

so maybe we have 3d3 drivers soon Smiley

@ mods
better copy all that in an extra thread, aalchemy gaming or what ever
