Title: Voodoo1 Problems
Post by P200 on 28.06.03 at 21:01:33
Hi again people! :D This is my problem...
I`ve bought an old (but cool) Voodoo1 a couple of days ago. Well, when i try to run games (ALL games, as Glide games or D3D games) the card doesn`t initiate  :'( (the screen comes black) and nothing happen. Windows recognize perfectly at start (PCI Multimedia Video Device Detected) and i install the latest drivers available. Then i restart and when i try to view the properties of V1 the system hangs, or when i try to run DXDiag (I use DX 8.1) too. I`ve tried to change from pci slot, but nothing happen. BUT, i remember when i was trying to run NFS3 IT RUNS!  :D (1 time of 34 attempts). What`s going on?  ??? Can be possible what my Voodoo1 is damaged or similar? Really i`d like to run games on this litte jewel ;D. Other thing: My V2 runs perfectly, then why my V1 doesn`t do?

Gratefully

Hmm...

Are you using the Voodoo1 in the same System as your Voodoo2 ?

If so, you'll need to carefully remove (newer Voodoo2 Drivers have an internal feature) old 3dfx Drivers before.

Otherwise, when the Voodoo2 is removed and the Voodoo1 installed, this can lead to a mixup in Drivers on your System, rendering the Voodoo1 hardly functional.
(Voodoo1 and Voodoo2 core files mostly have similar names, thus they can conflict).

And of course, you sure don't attempt to use Voodoo1 and Voodoo2 in your System at the same time ?

Also, what are your system specs ?
(Voodoo1/2 are known to have problems in some modern machines)

I have uninstalled my Voodoo2 and ALL the dll`s relationed whit the V2, but the V1 doesn`t work anyway...

My system is a poor Pentium 200 w/64 ram, hdd 4.3 and a Trident 9440 as a 2D card. DX 8.1.

Greetings!  :D

Hm, you could check the Temperature of the Card.

Some older Cards might be damaged, running, but on very high temperatures (but this is usually only experiences on very modern machines sometimes due to a bug)

Also, you might look into the Bios, and set anything Video Related to more conservative parameters...

Apart from that, I very well remember the "Black Screen upon accessing the Card's Display Properties" syndrome, but I don't remember an exact cause.
For as long as the Cables are routed correctly, it should work...
