Been a bit sick of Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2, so I went ahead and installed Mozilla Firebird 0.7....
And I must say, this one is something I really like :D Finally safe browsing without having to care about weekly Microsoft Security catastrophies, excellent Features and 3rd party Plug-In handling ;D http://www.mozilla.org/ (International) http://www.firebird-browser.de/ (German) |

Good choice. I never used IE. I am a Fan of Mozilla since the release 0.94 or 0.95. At the Moment I use 1.4.

Nope, I don't think so...
These newer Browsers are designed with Security in mind, not raw profits ;) It's not better because noone uses it, it's better by design. |

Firebird is great, been using the 0.6 version for lots of monthes, I don't even upgrade because there's no need for it, and I won't find my beloved theme : "Phusion" in 0.7 ;D -I didn't seek it much)
no popups, tabs, no crap deutsche active-X porn dialer self-installing :D ( I got that thing with IE, each 10 minutes it tried to connect to a 10€ per minute phone number :o = for slow machines ( < 200mhz PC, X terminals at university) Opera 7.23 is even better |

well, if nobody would use ie, nobody would hack ie...then it would be very save, too --> if most people would use mozilla, most attacks would go to mozilla...that's it! well, who actually installs a program because of its design..? ::) |

Nope, that's exactly what I was saying...
If everybody would use other Browsers, the Hackers wouldn't have so incredibly easy... The majority of Exploits found in IE are simply not present in other Browsers. well, who actually installs a program because of its design..? All those that prefer a secure, properly designed Software... |

as the trend seems to go to mozilla (and even opera), hackers can also concentrate on these ones...i'm quiet sure you know there are always security issues in programs. of course, hackers would'nt have it that easy anymore, so i appreciate new alternatives to ie..but sometimes there'll come the point mozilla will be as unsafe as ie is. |

Trust me one that one :
No x86 based Software ever was as untrustworthy as M$ Windows or its IE; it'll require alot of effort to break this questionable Record ;) Anyway, time will tell. |

Firebird/Thunderbird is a great combo. I've moved from the big fat Mozilla 1.5b (i never used IE) 4 month ago. But FB/TB are still a bit slow to load on older systems in comparsion to IE/OL. But as everyone knows, most part of the IE is lying in ram (for faster loading and wasting ram) because IE is used to show the desktop, even if you deactivate active desktop. By the way, forget the tip about 98LITE. This proggy makes it possible to get fully rid of the IE and use the WIN95B explorer to show the desktop. This saves ram but many setuproutines refuse to work. Especially those with microsoft installer. Maybe the MSI rely's on IE.
I use the german installable versions of FB 0.7 / TB 0.4 together with latest Java Runtime Enviroment 1.4.1_03. To make this java work you have to download and install the firebird-jre142-fix.reg file. Regards, Andreas |

Overall, good quality software! I think I may check this Mozilla out today, too! Thanks! ;D |
