Title: V5500 misaligned SLI?
Post by Raithe on 01.11.06 at 01:39:29
Hi,
I recently got my V5 AGP back and began using it as my main card again. All is peachy but I notice when running Diablo II that the scanlines don't meet up quite right. As in the Boxes around names are like so
---
---
---
---
Not quite that bad but you get the general idea.  I don't think its driver related, I've tried all three major 9x drivers with the same effect. Does this is glide and D3D. I don't recall it doing this before, (though I may have just not noticed it As I have upped from a 17" to a 21" monitor since the last time I used this card)
Here's the SysSpecs
PIII 666 133fsb
1gb PC133 ecc ram
Gigabyte mobo with 440bx chipset
V5 5500 AGP currently using AM 2.9 drivers
SB Live!p
500w ps demon
Nothing is overclocked on this box except the FSB which is set to 133. But that is a minor OC since the ram and proc are both 133 and has never given me any problems with a BX before.
Any help is appreciated.
Jack

Diablo 2 use 640x480 resolution... It's quite low... Sometimes I have the same problem at low resolution (not only with V5!!!) but I don't think that one of the vsa is broken...
Alone in the dark 4: The new nightmare is another one game that use 640x480 res and it runs bad... There is a patch that permit to use higher resolution and the missing scanlines disappear at 800x600 or 1024x768...
Do you have Lord of Destruction? This Expansion permit to use 800x600 resolution... I advise you to try it :)

Thanks for the reply.
Yeah I have LoD. (though I'm none too fond of the massive imbalances) The effect is lessened at 800x600, though still present. I have not noticed it with any other card however (nv6200, ati9800p, V2 or V3) only with the V5. I'm pretty sure the card is ok, it works fine everywhere else. Maybe its something in D2. I don't remember it being this way before but like I said that was on a much smaller screen. (the last time i used the v5 I mean, the other cards are post 21") Blizzard seams to be kinda buggy in they're hardware stuff as this isn't the only hardware anomoly I've seen with D2. Others include the game hard locking my system when using an SB Live under XP and my mousewheel not working under 9x on any mouse with more than 3 buttons (ie my Razer). Problems that only appear in D2 no other game or app.

Uhm... Try to start another game in low resolution mode...

Yeah I've started several. Even tried reinstalling the game with various patches, different versions of directx etc. same thing every time, and only in diablo ii. It's really not that disturbing I was posting to make sure this wasn't some kind of sign my V5 was about to crater.

Are you sure that no other games is affected?

I'm not sure, but I think when using 2xFSAA the fonts are unreadable in this game.
Try using 4xFSAA or disable it. Just an idea.
