There's also a V3 1000, which i have somewhere but i can't find it

it's the same as the 2000, but has 8mb of SGRAM

Hm, I wonder what the correct naming convention is for those.

After all, there is also the Cooler-less Voodoo3 125MHz 16MB, which I deemed a "Voodoo3 1000" so far (OEM maybe ?)

But then, never seen a Voodoo3 1000 then, except for those 125MHz OEM Cards without Cooler.

Iv'e seen the card you mean

A friend of mine has it in his PII, it's a pci card with 16mb of SGRAM
doesn't have any cooling and doesn't overheat even on DeusEx  :o [where even my elite voodoo4 keeps dying after a while]

And my V3 1k has 143mhz clock if i can remember right
not sure though, is it iimportant enough for me to hire a crew to search my room for it? :P

@DenisF - if your mates V3 1000 has 16MB SGRAM and no cooler it's prolly a COMPAQ OEM or similar... ;)

If it looks like THIS one that I recently got on eBay, it's DEFINATELY a COMPAQ! :D

Oh, and I know this next bit is a little off topic...but a few weeks back someone posted about a Gigabyte Banshee card with a BLUE PCB...(and 'odd' RAM) ;D

Guess who won it ::): -

The Gateway "Bonesteel" cards are a Velocity 100 with 8 megs SGRAM, one TMU, 143 mhz and are marked as V3-1000

The Compaq V3 with no cooler has 16 megs of ram, two TMU's, 125 mhz clock and is also marked V3-1000

If a guy wanted to start a collection...where could he get a list of every voodoo card ever produced by 3dfx?

Title: Re: Whats the difference?
Post by paulpsomiadis on 07.08.04 at 18:11:24
Maybe the producers of Star Trek could 'beam' the list to you? :D

Methinks you're asking for the impossible! ::) :P

Remember... ;)

1. There are MORE Voodoo products than JUST GFX cards...(arcade machines anyone?) ;)

2. Not all 3Dfx products are made BY 3Dfx! ::)

3. Making a list of EVERYTHING would take FOREVER! :o

Nuff said! 8)

Title: Re: Whats the difference?
Post by FalconFly on 07.08.04 at 18:23:20
Well, I wouldn't be so pessimistic about that plan.

Just do the following :

- search existing Collector's Thread for Manufacturers, Brands and Models
- search existing "Identify 3dfx Hardware Sites" (e.g. Plasma Online)
- search Ebay for less known 3dfx Manufacturers
- search known Manufacturers for further 3dfx Products in their past portofolio
- search Driver Sites for special / less known Brand names

And there you go, that alone would be a gigantic list, almost readily available at your hands.
And that doesn't take forever, maybe a day or so.

Title: Re: Whats the difference?
Post by paulpsomiadis on 08.08.04 at 05:04:21
Heh, I'm not THAT pessimistic @Falcon, but like @Patience said - I was taking @Hammer LITERALLY! ::)

And a list of absolutely EVERY single 3Dfx product, including all 3Dfx 'brand' cards, third party cards, arcade hardware, prototype hardware, etc...would take forever! :o

But, sure, a list of much of the hardware that we already know of is quite possible! ;)

Hm, before we swamp every Thread with totally normal 3dfx Ebay Auctions, please post those in the "Great Deals on Ebay" Thread ;)

(there are about 200 3dfx Auctions in EBay Germany alone, let's hope nobody links all those *g* )

Title: Re: Whats the difference?
Post by Hammer on 10.08.04 at 04:34:53
My post was for information about what it is?..Not to Inandate the board with links to auctions...I felt it was no different than How I started the thread to begin with...I.E. A noob looking for info...However the thread got turned around into other things, and that was allowed...which doesnt bother me...But now it seems as though the rules have changed...OK again I guess...lol..its your forum!...Take care

Title: Re: Whats the difference?
Post by FalconFly on 10.08.04 at 10:03:04
*ugh*

Well, the Item is described as a Guillemot Maxi Gamer Phoenix, and it looks like one too (?) ;)

Thus my confusion, since it clearly states that. A normal Banshee Card it is...

Title: Re: Whats the difference?
Post by Hammer on 10.08.04 at 18:08:52
Well thanx...I said Im a noob, so really hard to get Banshee from all that "Guillemot® Maxi Gamer Phoenix 3Dfx 16MB PCI"...sorry to bother you fellas...wont happen agin

Title: Re: Whats the difference?
Post by Hammer on 10.08.04 at 20:36:51
Well bro Im really not looking for anything that would be a downgrade from a Voodoo 3 3000...But I just dont know what Im looking at sometimes in these ebay auctions....that card didnt say Banshee...all it said was 16 meg....so ouy of curiosity I wanted to know what it was....I assume what I have now is better than a banshee?...but back to "what" Im looking for...Really just knowledge so I know what to look for...lmao!...and Im not trying to be combative with those whom I wish to gather that knowledge from....lol...but I must admit seemed as a double standard to be told to post it somehwere else...If Im wrong then Im sorry..

Title: Re: Whats the difference and this card ?

Apologies should come from my side then, I completely dropped that, sorry about that (no offense intended).

Well Im glad we cleared that up, and Im also sorry if I seemed at all confrontive to a degree of making anyone uneasy....I teach things...to be able to teach you must be able to learn...to be able to learn one must first respect the teacher...I respect the collective knowledge gathered her in this forum...thats why Im here...to be taught...lol....thanx for the page for tech FAQ's...now since I have the falconfly driver page listed in my favorite's I prolly could say to myself "I bet there was a link on it all along to the FAQ page also"....LMAO......thanx again

Well, my BLUE Gigabyte Banshee arrived today! ;D

All I can say is... ::)

"It's BLUE ba-be-de-ba-ba-da...[no I will NOT sing the whole song! - LOL!]" ;D

A VERY nice Banshee card! 8)

However, although the card is BLUE like Falcons (same RAM too...). ::)

Mine is an earlier revision  - v1.0 (looks like they had to fix a few problems on the early revision cards to get them to work). :P

Mine only has ONE electrolytic capacitor on the PCB (the one to the right of the crystal). ???

And there is a surface mount resistor soldered BETWEEN R47 and R48 at the lower left of the HSF. ???

Also, the heatsink is BLUE, like the card...(can't see if Falcons heatsink is blue?) :P

Anyhow, might get some pic's up sometime for a comparison... 8)
