Title: Voodoo Cooling Solutions
Post by NitroX infinity on 03.01.06 at 19:54:53
Was browsing around google for images of Radeon 8500/9100 heatsinks and came across this beauty.
It's fitted on a Gigabyte Radeon 8500 Deluxe (MAYA AP128DG-H).

Notice a familiar shape?

hehe yeah only the fan is abit cheap, a Zalman CU700 or something would be a better choice hehe.

I'm thinking that they are the same fans used on some Northbridge chips of Mobo's.

The I would still prefer 3dfx orginal Voodoo3 3000 cooler nice and quiet lol.

Well a Zalman would totally change the look of the card IMHO.
This cooler looks a lot like the Voodoo 3 heatsink.

@roflkopp; could you resize your image?

Cooler Master SAC-P01

Also available in blue and aluminium colours.

The base measures 12,6mm x 10mm and thus fits perfectly on the back of your V3/V4/V5 graphic chips without touching any other components! With a bit of thermal tape this is an easy way to cool the backside of your card. Also suitable for the memory on your cards.

And for the front of your cards;

I had Zalman ZMNB32-J's. These would cool the card in idle mode (browsing, typing, etc) but were not nearly sufficient when playing games. I had to attach the original fans to these heatsinks for adequate cooling.

Didn't have an airflow in my case btw.

You either need a big-ass heatsink or a smaller heatsink with a fan.

Zalman has a new cooling solution for northbridges which looks quite good to be honest.
This looks to be a better cooler than Zalman's previous northbridge cooler thus more
capable of cooling Avenger and VSA-100 chips.

Zalman's "flower" like passive product are meant to be operated vertically in order to spread the heat and not flat (in case of a "on vga core" mount position).

With a good airflow they can be mounted horizontal too.

there's no other solution than two 3000 coolers on a 5500  :-*

only problem is, that you need an additional fan somewhere around the sinks  :P :(

Depends, I built a silent PC with the same setup but the board was downclocked to 143 mhz via custom bios.
