Title: Rampage game list
Post by gdonovan on 16.12.13 at 23:28:48
This is an attempt to identify what runs and what does not run with current (12/2013) Rampage Win95/98* driver with my own INF file.

This thread assumes you have a stable platform and video card, feel free to post screenshots. I have NOT posted any software rendering pictures as I assume were trying to get 3D rendering fully functional.

For point of reference I'm running an ABIT VA6 with an 800MHZ P3 with Windows 98SE. I have tried Win95a & b along with Windows ME. I have found 98SE to be the most stable with ME a close second. I'm running DirectX 9C. For OpenGL operation I'm using SciTech DirectGL wrapper 5.0.2

Please see this thread for motherboard settings, testing and information.

http://www.falconfly.de/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1373721600

Please confine any posts to just games or demos, any hardware issues should be directed towards other threads. If posting please indicate if game is running D3D, OpenGL or software rendering. I will start listing the games I have tried in the next post with screenshots.

nb. Why all games/benchmark don't work with Fraps? like 3dmark01se. (when i want to take a picture).

nb2. Every time I play a games in D3D/OpenGL mode I have a blue screen (fatal error). How can i resolve my problem?

Michel you must focus the tests in what D3D games Rampage can run but using real HW D3D on or using a OpenGL wrapper, not in SW mode. Even if you get BSOD in few seconds. You must 'play' with games setting, resolution, enable / disabled buffering, depth color, so on... a few detail can do the game locks up in 20 seconds instead of 3 seconds.

Of course, BSODs always are present. Normally making reference VXD library. It means something inside the code crash system.

Games tested tonight-

1) Giants MECC demo, crashes at menu or shortly after

2) NFL Blitz, launches and runs but acts like it is in software rendering mode, only 19 fps

3) System Shock 2, runs well almost never crashes.

4) Daikatana demo, starts game and then crashes after being in level for a minute or two.

5) Jedi Knight II Outcast demo, crashes most of the time in menus, sometimes makes it to opening level.

6) Max Payne Demo, 50% of time locks in menu, other time during opening animations after a few minutes.

7) MDK D3D mode- Makes it into game, 90% of the screen is black with just the health meter visible. No lock up though!

8) Turok D3D demo, almost makes it through opening animations before locking.

9) Unreal D3D, renders only half a screen, doesn't crash

10) Final Reality demo- Makes it through most tests, crashes 90% of time on last test when ship is flying over/through city. Has done a complete bench only twice.

11) glquake- runs well but very dark

12) Need For Speed High Stakes- Will only run software, crashes when trying to run D3D

13) Need for Speed III- Makes it to the countdown to start race before locking up.

14) Thief- Runs good, very dark rendering.

15) Quake III IHV leaked demo- runs for minute or two

16) Nascar Racing 1999- Software or GLide only

17) Tomb Raider II demo D3D- Seems to work rather well, runs for several minutes before BSOD

Ok and how can i use Rampage D3D drivers?

If you use OpenGL wrapper like DirectGL is it work or blue screen/freeze for you?

Now I am talking of memory. Once inside VGA setting games in render option you must choose D3D driver and not standard OpenGL. Anyway not sure if Tomb Rider II is OpenGL compatible.

Question- where do you have installed Opengl32.dll library wrapper? In system32 folder or only in the folder ejecutable game?

- Oscar.

I have installed OpenGL32.dll in system32 folder. It's auto when you install DirectGL 5.0.2.
In Tomb Raider II I don't put any others opengl32.dll in same directory as executable.
Why?

Title: Re: Rampage game list

TRII is a D3D or software game.

Install the demo and the run the game setup. Choose D3D driver or software.

Its running good here, will upload video in a bit.

Even If DirectGL install OpenGL32.dll in system32 folder. You can copy it, and deleted it from system32 folder and only paste it in the folder game executable if you want try another render option. Understand?

So you force Game to use native D3D Ramapge driver.

I'm going to load the Giants "seareaper" demo, I can't find the original anywhere. Just "seareaper" and "MECC" Do you have a copy of the original Oscar or have a link to it?

Reaper demo locked up at "enter a name" screen, rebooting and trying again.

second time made it as far as the opening of the level and locked up before I could move

Will try one more time in game "safe mode"

results- ran 10-20 seconds before BSOD.

trevormacro do you have the DX test pack with vintage tests like "bees" "flare" and "trees"? Very good for testing the boards quick as they are small applications.

Mmmm... I did not test it but for sure FRAPS has the option to record video.  I will test it!

TR2- It looks nice. I have another demo version but I will download the version you sent me and I will post some pics.

Special feeling when I see a game moved for the mythical Rampage card (part of the story).

GIANTS REAPER DEMO.
Native D3D driver.
FRAPS
TURN RAMPAGE #B003 with different voltage settings.

It works very stable  if you disabled, sun light, shadows..., but with texture errors. All enabled games freezes in 20 secnds.

1) Tried powerslide, no luck aside from menus. When you load a racetrack the screen is garbbled.

2) Expendable runs very well if very dark

3) Played with Need For Speed 3, lowered some settings and was able to go almost a whole lap.

4) Moto Racer, grabled junk but I was able to alt-F4 out.

5) Deus Ex demo- Crahes out to desktop, can only get to run in software.

6) Heretic II- Runs OpenGL32 or software ok, no problem adjusting gamma in menu! Locks up rapid in the game though, no more than a few seconds after loading level.

7) Half-Life Opposing Force- D3D, loads level, crashes. OpenGL will not run (states not detected)

I have tried fraps and got some good screenshots, will upload them before bed.

Fixed driver BUG 16Mb instead 32Mb.

Questin is- really extra 16Mb will be used for Rampage?  8-)

3DMark2001 - Rampage @16Mb

3DMark2001SE - Rampage @32Mb

Even simple view I noticied an amazing extra performance since not jerks for lacking of memory texture.

Note- Scores are little low since I am using my Rampage card with my agp2pci adapter since I found it works better.

More news soon.  :D

Really what my friend has been to able to do is amazing. He is a SW WIZARD. His skills are amazing. He does all the work with not datasheet Rampage or other internal info. Not words here.

----------

Our target was 64Mb per Rampage Chip and again NOT WORDS. . Really Rampage can hadle 64Mb per chip?

RAMPAGE DXDIAG TOOL 64Mb

Really extra 32Mb is handled correctly per Rampage?

SUMMARY:
  • RAMPAGE @16Mb - 478Points 3DMark2001SE
  • RAMPAGE @32Mb - 841Points 3DMark2001SE
  • RAMPAGE @64Mb - 911Points 3DMark2001SE

Regards,
Oscar.

What were the results in 3DMark 2000 with 32 and 64Mb of RAM?

There is a bug where 3DMark2000 not detects correctly memory size available. For 3DMark2000 Rampage only has 5Mb though 3DMark2001SE detects Total video memory 16/32/64Mb.

I mean - SW detects cards so:

RAMPAGE 16Mb:
Total video memory 5120kb
Video Memory used 4687kb
Texture Memory Available 6960

RAMPAGE 64Mb:
Total video memory 5120kb
Video Memory used 4687kb
Texture Memory Available 56112kb

Fantastic! :D Please give us more details ;)

What does it mean in practice?
Is the card COMPLETELY stable now and you can play ALL the games, benchmarks etc.?

Hello,

It means the RAMPAGE SOURCE is correct and files got are compatible with Rampage.

No, driver has different bugs and card lock up often.

The good new is- for each folder inside Rampage source code there are a lot of variables can be set up (enabling / deseabling) feature as you can see in the picture above. We need time for compiling driver with different options and checking performance and stability.

So biggest problem is solved....being able to compile the drivers......now what has to be done is tweak them to get max performance out of them

Will be one hell of  a job if ya ask me, but at least you can compile the drivers now, sooo....

Step 1: be able to compile drivers......check
Step 2: fix driver bugs / issues / crashes........work in progress
Step 3: optimize drivers for max performance / stability.......when step 2 is done :)
