directx 9c compatability
09.03.06 at 02:03:27

Ok, so imagine first that I'm a complete numpty and have very little knowledge of the whole driver, techie thing  ???

My problem:  I have Win98 installed and a 3dfx Voodoo3 graphics card.  At some point I downloaded directx 9.0c which apparently isn't supported by the current driver I have (3Dfx16v3.drv).  I noticed no problem until running 'Black and White', which incidentally ran fine with directx 8.  Now I have display problems.  Is there any way of fixing this?

I excitedly await the replies of my intellectual superiors.   Grin

Thank you kindly for your help.

There is no use installing directx 9c, if you are using a V3. In my opinion you should uninstall dx 9c and reinstall 8.1 or whatever you had before. You remove directx using DXExtractor or DXDetonator. You could try to use newer 3rd party drivers as well. You can find them here: http://falconfly.de/voodoo3.htm

Sir, you are both a gentleman and a scholar.

I uninstalled directx 9.0c, re-installed directx 8.1 and updated my voodoo3 drivers.  Now it seems I'm in a brighter and more colouful world!  I have a new lease of life!  Shocked

You have made my existance worthwhile, and I thank you.  Smiley

I run Win98 with Voodoo 3 2000 PCI and DirectX 9.0 with no problem. I use Omega Drivers 1.03 for Voodoo 3/4/5.  Wink

Anyhow - WELCOME TO OUR FORUM! Grin

And yeah, you can use DX 9.0c if you are using 'custom' drivers... Wink

...but be careful to read all of the install instructions CAREFULLY - some of the custom drivers have fiddly install methods... Tongue

By the way, are you in the U.K.? ???
