I would think that 2K would support that chipset and yeah 2K does see two procs. Question is though, when AMD pushes out their 4x4 chips, what will any of the OS's see. 2K and XP Pro see two procs, right now, it's only the servers that see more then that and that's depending on what server OS you have. Regular 2K server will see up to four or six I think, I don't remember which. 2K enterprise will see up to 16 or 32 procs. XP on the other hand, I don't know but I think it's only two. Visat when it comes out, will it support a four core CPU? I don't know.

well the the CPU works fine :) but it's the Rage Theater 550 chip in the X1900 XTX which can't be installed even with ATi's WDM driver set, that's the unkown device, I can recall that I had the same with my X800 XT PE but a driver update fixed this problem, I used Omega Catalyst 6.3 and the prob was solved, I had hoped even with Omega Cat6.3 as 6.5 I have now would of solved this prob on the XTX as well as it did for X800XT PE AGP.
and that prob with the gameport of the Audigy2 is abit odd. anyways these are the only probs I have encountered so far, just hope that there is a way te get rid of them and get those parts installed propperly. |

I think you need an IRQ for the game port.

hmm yeah think so too but shouldn't that be done automaticly by the system it's self, what I do know is that my mobo has an onboard SB as well dunno if that has something to do with this prob though.
p.s. congrats of gett'n a Gold Member Strats 8) |

did you disable the on-board sound card in the BIOS?

hmm partually , i did last time when I had XP Pro on it, XP had no probs with the unknown stuff and game port, wierd that 2K Pro would have this problem and XP Pro not dunno if the difference between those OS'es are that big qua Hardware support?
but yeah I'll take a walk though the bios and see if there are things enabled which should not be :) Thanx for that one 8) |

I don't know if your board has any serial and or parallel ports. We don't use those much these days. You can disable those and free up some resources ;)

well here's my board , it's very state of the art for a single socket 939 board and also one of the last high end S939 boards with ATi RD580 CrossFire Express chipset:
ASUS A8R32 MVP Deluxe: here the panel: it's a very nice board filled with lots of gadgets hehe It's onboard soundcard, gameport's and onboard I/O's for that SB are disabled like it was when I had XP pro on it. the sound card I use in it is the Audigy2 Platinum it's a well known card not the newest but it's sound is perfect for the things i need it to do. It is placed in the last PCI32 bit slot on the far left, the VMAC 5500 Prototype is placed between the 2 PXI-e x16 slots :) CrossFire and VMAC 5500 PCI is not a prob with this board also a main reason I bought it so I could use my Audigy2 5500 PCI and 2 X1900 class GFX cards. here the specs of this board: Hey Gamma does the Voodoo5 need an IRQ as well because I do have a setting where i can Allocate IRQ to PCI VGA it does the following: with option Yes: Assigns IRQ to PCI VGA it it request an IRQ and if I do No it won't assign an irq to the PCI VGA even if it requests an IRQ. That may come in handy but I do not know if the VMAC 5500 PCI requests an IRQ. about the parrall prot I can give it IRQ 5 and 7 as only option so dunno what to do there. |

It looks like you could disable both the the serial header port and the parallel/printer port. And I do allow the PCI VGA an IRQ.
See if that helps with the game port. |

well I got an update my friends :)
the X1900 XTX's inknown device has been solved by installing the official Ati Catalyst driver bundle + WDM NSP drivers version 6.2 for windows 2000 so that part has been completed :) now I'm try'n to get rid of the smaller problem the Game port for SBA 2 Plat. I will keep you updated , we now have more hope that it will work out :) well the HP Deskjet 3940 also has been installed without probs, the VMAC also with AmigaMerlin 3.1 R11 and V.Control for the control panel for that 3dfx card. Catalyst 6.2+WDM 6.2 is adviced for people that are planned to run Win2K Pro+SP4 with thier X1K series Radeons! it's the ATi Reccomended driver for 2K Pro +SP4, SP4 is required for that driver set and Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 and up, I installed 2.0. Pics soon when after reinstalling that sound card. Thanx for all the help so far ;) |
