Title: GTA 3 with a Voodoo 3
Post by BaS_BleU on 18.10.02 at 01:10:27
Hi! I am currently trying to make GTA 3 work with my voodoo 3 2000. I'd like to know what settings do I have to put on (with 3dfx tools) for the game to work... I have a AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1000 mhz and 320 RAM, but the game crashes ALWAYS AT THE SAME SPOT!!! I can go wherever in town, but when I get some places, it always crashes...

So please someone, tell me how did you make GTA 3 work with a voodoo 3... and what is the driver you are using, and most importantly, the settings you used. Thanks!

Well, the true Problem is, that the Win9x V1.03.00 Driver (that runs the Game just fine on a Voodoo3 on an intel CPU), seems to have an unfortunate incompatibility with AMD CPU's :(

So as of now, there is no known way to run GTA3 with a V3 on a Thunderbird CPU...

Since 3D Analyzer is permanently being updated, it might be the only worthwile chance.

Greetings

Ok, because I meet all requirements (320 RAM) excepted for my voodoo :) And I have WinME...

I have tried a lot of drivers, with no different results... I'm currently using Mikepedo 1.0 drivers, and they work great in the game: it doesn't crash often, but it always crashes when I go to specific places... Guess I'll have to wait for the new x3dfx drivers, or for the next 3DHQ drivers :(

Well, looks like 3dHQ is going to be back in (public) business soon :

http: // 216.250.180.26 /

Presently under construction, and the DNS switch hasn't been thrown for this site.
But I'm sure it'll get a recognizable Domain within a matter of days...

---- edit ----
lol

Looks like they prefer to hideout some more time, that "Site" has vanished as quick as it emerged...

So yet again some "more Underground time for 3dHQ"  ::)

i am using a voodoo3 3000 agp 2.15.07 sdram with duron 950@1000, 128 mb ram, mikepedo 1.0. the game crashes in the tutorial always at the same moment. the sound runs further but the video freezes. i ve tried 3dfx 1.07 and xpentor finalmix. i ve heard there is a patch for the game. where can i find it? c

With MikePedo 1.0, I can't see the intro (or it freezes). But the other movies (well, when you go talk  to the bosses to get your mission) don't crash...

I'll try to tingle with other settings to see if I can get it to work... I hope so, lol :P And BTW, I don't think there is any demo for gta3.

Oh and BTW, I read on a website (voodooalert) that in the game, you have to deactivate unschärfe FX. I don't understand german, so plz, could someone tell me what does unschärfe FX means?? I tried to use a translator, but unschärfe is not translated...

Well, this means something like "Blur FX"...

As I don't have the Game, I can't associate the exact option with that, but "Unschärfe" means : Blur

Did they use some form of T-Buffer type effects in that Game ?

Maybe they mean Draw distance??? Or  brightness... These are the only two display options that look probable...

But if it's the draw distance, then it doesn't work :( Ill try to put the brightness to 0...

what about the 1.03 driverset for amd duron? does it work better than mikepedo 1.0 or 3dfx 1.07. using mikepedo 1.0 the intro crashes at the same place, the game crashes randomly. it is unplayable because it crashes very often. c

From all I've heard, all AMD Athlon class CPU's don't work in most cases with GTA3 and the V1.03.00 Driver.

Since the Duron is basically an Athlon with only 64k L2 Cache, I guess it probably won't work either :(

I played with brightness to minimum and it did crash less!!! (but it still crashes...)

Guess I'll have to wait for the new x3dfx or 3DHQ drivers....

which driverset does the x3dfx driver contain? or is it a totally new written driverset?
will it work with voodoo3 and win98se? c

Well, depends on which x3dfx Driver you mean...
(There are many different versions, for all Operating Systems.)

And of course, there is a Voodoo3 x3dfx Driver as well ;)

As of now, there is no single "completely new" Driver set existing.
All Drivers out there are .inf mods, and the later ones usually include Koolsmoky's new Glide Cores (which are indeed redone Cores)...
