Title: NitroX infinity's website UPDATE: 13-JUN-2010
Post by NitroX infinity on 29.05.09 at 17:14:12
13 JUNE 2010:

After several weeks of work I can now finally present version 2.2 of my website to the public!

http://3dfx.t35.com

The biggest difference is the coding; the site now uses php instead of just html. What visitors will notice is the addition to several categories such as the news, updates, articles, my marketplace and the voodoo lists.

I know there are a lot of pictures missing, especially in the Voodoo2 and Voodoo Banshee sections of my collection, but I can't take pictures with a broken camera ;)

Tell me what you think of this new version!

ISO is 400. I can select between auto, 100, 200 and 400. Never knew what it did, now I do, so thank you ;D

I like the front of the boxes page. Alot of the card pcbs look somewhat alike, but by seeing the box you know instantly what the card is. Then all you have to do is click on it to see the card itself.  The site looks great.   ;)

Nice site!

What I would change is, in some sections, like the Voodoo 3-5, when you click on a picture, you expect to see the card and box, like in the Voodoo graphics section, yet it takes you to a list of the cards, then you have to scroll down. Perhaps directly link to one single page which contains the box and card, like in the other sections.

And I would change this, or word it differently :

If you are using Internet Explorer 6 or an older version, you will find that this site doesn't look/work properly. This is not my problem, you are using an outdated browser, get a new one.

It comes over very harsh, like "I don't care if you have got problems viewing the site, you deal with it, not my problem."

Instead, you can "suggest" to update to a newer browser. Plus, making your website compatible is the responsibility of the owner, not of the user. IE 6.0 is still widely used, especially on older PC's, even though Firefox and IE 7 have a higher market share.

Just a matter of personal taste, maybe remove the _ _ _ _ _ around the thumbnails.

Also, at the bottom of each page it says :

Copyright © 2009 - NitroX infinity

You need to apply for Copyright in order for your content to be protected, and Copyright to be enforced, it would be better to watermark your pictures (something I still have to do lol!), and to enable hotlink protection so no one is leaching your bandwidth, if you haven't already done that. There is no way to prevent people from using your pictures.

Also, are you allowed to link to Tweakers.net for hosting your pictures? Hosting packages are very cheap nowadays, and you can keep everything on your site, without linking externally, it also adds reliability of your content. Not that tweakers ever goes down, but what if they pull the plug on your linking?

I prefer the page with the cards, simply because you do not have all boxes, but you do have all cards, so your boxes page would have thumbnails of cards in it anyway. It's more uniform that way. If that makes any sense.

Haha. I was thinking the same thing.   ;D

I was thinking of adding anchors and jump links. Why? Look at the Jazz Adrenaline3D Rush page. There are two; a sealed box and just a card. I'm not that fond of showing both on the overview page because they're the same.

I like the border, it lights up when you hover over it with your mouse, it's a little 'hey look at me' thing. Makes people wanna click it :P

As for the copyright, because I created the site, made the graphics, etc. I own the rights automaticly. That's how it goes here in the Netherlands for individuals. I've adjusted it though.

Regarding watermarks; I don't care much if people use these pictures, they're crap anyway. I'll watermark my pictures when I get a decent camera ;D

Yes, I'm allowed to link to my gallery. The main purpose for the gallery is T.Net itself but you're allowed to use it elsewhere too. The reason I have it in my T.net gallery is because it's nice and organized.

Thanks for the input.

The site is nice, it isn't top notch of course, but it's more than ok, it has a good layout.

Too bad that the pics aren't very good, lot of image noise, you probably used a entry level point and shoot camera using a high ISO (if you make pictures inside a room, usually there's not enough light and if you put the camera on auto, it tends to compensate the low light by using high ISO, resulting in bad photos). Try to get a DSLR or at least a good point and shoot and try to have lots of light when you do the pictures, ideally take them outside on a bench or something. Ah, and get a tripod, it helps alot.

Back tot the site, I think a black/green or blue/red color combination would look much better.

Yeah, I know my camera sucks :P I have a tripod but it's not that great either. I've already got my eye on something else called a 'reprozuil' in Dutch; http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=reprozuil&gbv=2&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

I went with orange because I'm Dutch and proud of it and our national colour is orange (our kings and queens are from the house of Orange-Nassau).

Nice collection. I think with boxes is better.

Just a thought, some older/different OS's might not have upgrade paths available for browsers.

"I live in the north-east of the Netherlands and was born in the first half of the nineteen-eighties. "

Oh that makes me feel positively old!!

Some thumbnail links seem broken, otherwise very easy to navigate around.

The broken links is correct. Those pages have not been created and uploaded yet.

Nice site already, very tidy :)
I'd like the boxes in the overview better, more interesting in my opinion ;) Of course only if you have boxes to all cards shown, otherwise it wouldn't make too much sense imho...

BTW my boxed v2 has 110mhz Mosel Vitelic Memory, and there was only one card in the box, I destroyed the other one.
