Post by HELP ME!! on 24.05.06 at 22:13:01
I have a voodo 3 3000 and every driver i install seems to work I reeboot and my mouse is a big black square that changes in looks. I thought no big deal tried several other drivers all do the same thing. I ran the diablo2 video test and when it does direct draw my screen has wierd patterns please tell me how to fix it im sick of using this intergrated 4mb thing. I'm using windows 98 first edition. By the way somebody on a different fourm was having the same problem but nobody helped him ??? Please help I really want this card to work :'(

I recommend Win98 SE [Second Edition], but Win98 FE [First Edition] should work as well.

With AmigaMerlin 2.9 here it is:

if that does not work enable Geometry Assist :) that is T&L Emulation ;) should get you going.

do remember the Voodoo3 aka Avenger can only do 16Bit colours not 32Bit ;)

cheers,

Okay, first remember that Google is your friend!

THIS thread explains the problem can be due to screen colour mode. You should use 16bit colour and NOT 32-bit...(different GFX card I know, but the problrm exists on many cards...)

http://forums.viaarena.com/messageview.aspx?catid=21&threadid=52973&enterthread=y

THIS thread suggestss the problem can also be due to the 'evil-ness' of McAffee AV

http://forums.swishzone.com/index.php?showtopic=17851

THIS page explains that the bug can be due to pointer 'shadow' in a WinNT based O.S. (bottom of page)

Anyhow, hope one of these helps - if not then no idea?

well from looking at some of those post, you might want to make sure that your built in 4 meg onboard video card is disabled in the bios. Even though you might have an additional card the system might still be allocating memory to the onboard one even though your not using it (just a guess here by the way- I've never ran into this problem). Also check to see if the default video display is pointing to the AGP card if that's what your V3 is. I have no idea if this will help or not, like I said, I've never ran into this before but hope it helps.
