Title: 5500 agp Recomendations Post by Drakan Player on 12.01.10 at 04:57:44
Last month I got lucky and landed a 5500 agp for $9 on ebay and would like to put this card in a more suitable rig instead of the one that I got it in now. The rig is a vintage K6-2 oced to 550mhz with 384mb ram, 500w psu, and a crappy 15GB wd drive. The card has already been cleaned and new fans with coolers are installed with the thermalshield fans with the 3DFX logos. The card its self runs very well at 200mhz (well cooled) and can push 220mhz but tends to crash after a few min with out artifacts but is unharmed. So I would like to put it into a better rig that can run fraps so that I can make videos. Running under XP sp1 and also have a 3500 that runs well on another rig (compaq 5400us) that is temperamental at best with gpus that also has been modded with a thermaltake cooler that has a copper heatpipe. The last card is a simple 2000 that is in a mid 90s gateway.

You can start with a Socket A 333MHz motherboard. One of the best choices would be by EPoX. ie. 8K5A2+, 8K5A3+
These boards accept the fasted Athlon A chips like a 3200+ or 3000+ @ 333MHz. Software wise, if you are going to go with WinXP, get the Pro version and update to at least Service Pack 2. |

That was going to be my second choice incase you wanted dual cpus. :) The Tiger MPX is an excellent & safe choice as well for Voodoo cards. I would highly recommend getting the S2466N-4M version.

Well I missed out on a lot of good buys due to lack of funds but I hope that soon I will have the ring up and running. Will try a few fraps runs and upload then.
