Title: Sniper POV Post by InSomNiaN on 12.09.03 at 15:48:12
Hi all... I read a while ago that this game (sniper) works fine on a Voodoo5, however after buying the game, I seem to have alot of graphic corruption on the screen. I'm using Win98 SE, and have tried most of the drivers, including 1.04, 1.04.1 (beta) 1.07, 3dhq beta 4 +10, and amigermerlin 2.9... Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi Patience, thnx for your swift reply.
The min specs are: P III 600Mhz (Mine is XP2000, 512mb, v5 AGP, DX9) 16mb video card DX8 When i say graphic corruption, I mean I have some screen tearing (similar to aggressive HSR in Q3). The background and forground are fine, but the rain on the first level is green and in turn, it has green corruption/flickering on the screen. Hope this helps :) |

Just some additional info as well.....it states on the box that the recommended specs are a 32mb OpenGL video card (doesn't state 1.1 or 1.2), so I've also tried using the wicked GL driver, but to no avail.
Regardless of the driver I use, the graphic corruption is exactly the same....just seems strange 2 me...... ??? |

Could be a color depth issue. Try 16bit, and disable texture compression from the 3dfx settings pannel.

I've tried changing the colour depth, but 2 no avail.
I'll try disabling the texture compression next, c how it goes :) |

Another idea... The game is OpenGL, so the combination glide-opengl translator is critical. Might give a try with this couple, although it's not documented for this game's usage: http://bdreams.012webpages.com/Download/Drivers/Drivers.htm. Try them, even if the name is different from what you expect. When installing ignore the "NFS" requirements.

Hi Patience,
AFAIK there is no demo available for this game. I was waiting for the demo a while ago, but it never came out, so thats why I bought the game.... :) |

Any config, settings inside a file out there? Any file in which to find out things like in q3config.cfg ( Use texture compression 1, Multitexture 1...) from Quake3?
If yes, send your .cfg or anything like it to Beyond Dreams, or better contact us directly at our e-mail address: bdreams2003@yahoo.com. The aim is to solve this problem, and implement the fix in our future driver release. So, it is your benefit in contributing. |

I'd be more than happy to contribute in any way possible. :)
Disabling the texture compression didn't help, but I'm yet to try those other drivers you suggested. Here is a copy of the .cfg file. I can also email it to you if you like. I've tried turning options on and off, but it doesn't seem to have any effect. >:( Anyway, here it is: "numconsolelines" "0" "alwaysflushlog" "1" "Speech" "1" "locale" "1" "optimizesurfaces" "1" "windowed" "0" "saturate" "0" "bitdepth" "16" "screenwidth" "800" "errorlog" "0" "MaxFPS" "160" "MaxTextureSize" "512*512" "CInvertMouse" "0" "God" "0" "enabledevice" "##mouse" "Music" "1" "ModelShadow_proj_enable" "0" "Sound" "1" "lightmaps" "0" "ModelShadow_proj_alpha" "300" "CWeaponBob" "1" "showframerate" "2" "screenheight" "600" "ServerProps" "0.000000" "CAutoQuickSave" "1" "MaxModelLights" "4" AddAction A 1 AddAction B 2 AddAction C 3 AddAction D 4 AddAction E 5 AddAction F 6 AddAction G 7 AddAction H 8 AddAction I 9 AddAction J 10 AddAction K 11 AddAction L 12 AddAction M 13 AddAction N 14 AddAction O 15 AddAction P 16 AddAction Q 17 AddAction R 18 AddAction S 19 AddAction T 20 AddAction U 21 AddAction V 22 AddAction W 23 AddAction X 24 AddAction Y 25 AddAction Z 26 AddAction LeftShift 27 AddAction RightShift 28 AddAction Alt 29 AddAction Space 30 AddAction Enter 31 AddAction Num0 32 AddAction Num1 33 AddAction Num2 34 AddAction Num3 35 AddAction Num4 36 AddAction Num5 37 AddAction Num6 38 AddAction Num7 39 AddAction Num8 40 AddAction Num9 41 AddAction UpArrow 42 AddAction DownArrow 43 AddAction LeftArrow 44 AddAction RightArrow 45 AddAction Delete 46 AddAction Insert 47 AddAction End 48 AddAction Home 49 AddAction PgDown 50 AddAction PgUp 51 AddAction NumDel 52 AddAction NumEnter 53 AddAction NumPlus 54 AddAction NumMinus 55 AddAction BackSpace 56 AddAction Comma 57 AddAction Dot 58 AddAction Slash 59 AddAction Semicolon 60 AddAction Apostrophe 61 AddAction SqBracketLeft 62 AddAction SqBracketRight 63 AddAction BackSlash 64 AddAction Minus 65 AddAction Equals 66 AddAction LeftControl 67 AddAction RightControl 68 AddAction Quit 250 AddAction QuickSave 251 AddAction QuickLoad 252 AddAction Axis1 -1 AddAction Axis2 -2 AddAction Axis3 -3 AddAction Menu 70 AddAction Weapon1 71 AddAction Weapon2 72 AddAction Weapon3 73 AddAction Weapon4 74 AddAction Weapon5 75 AddAction Weapon6 76 AddAction Weapon7 77 AddAction Weapon8 78 AddAction F1 80 AddAction F2 81 AddAction F3 82 AddAction F4 83 AddAction MButton0 84 AddAction MButton1 85 AddAction MButton2 86 |

By a study of the game strange output, theoretically, it might be an "alpha color combine" feature of the drivers that don't work corectly. This means that the alpha channel (transparency is not computed corectly), and either another texture ( rain look), is not seen as an alpha texture, and is computed as a normal one, resulting the green effect. Also, it might as well be the case that on the rain, there is no texture sent actually to the card (drivers and game issue).
Sending some pictures (fullscreen snapshots from in-game) might make the tracking of the problem better. Regarding the config you took out, it's not the amount of settings to help easily to track down the game problem, so much more work is needed to solve it. Also, another bad aspect is that we can't do a test on a Voodoo5, so we fully rely on users feedback... |
