Title: OpenGL Problem with MesaFX
Post by OutOfRange on 01.03.05 at 21:55:12
I tried to play Doom3 on my V2 System but i cannot install WickedGL  3.02  :-/

I installed the fastvoodoo 4.0 gold for winxp, doom3 patching is well done but i cannot install the missing wickedgl.... everytime i start the wickedgl setup the windows installer stops at 99% of the setup preloading and shows "WinExec failed: return=87" reinstall of the driver has no effect  :-/

Sys:
Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra Black
AMD Athlon 2400+
512 MB RAM
Radeon 9550 AGP uses newest Catalyst with CP (not CCC)
2x12MB Diamond Monster 3D SLI (uses Fastvoodoo 4.0 gold)
winxp prof. sp2

i dunno what to do  :-[

now i installed mesafx (is it correct that i have only to copy the opengl32.dll into the doom3 directory ??? )

but now i have a genport error by triying to start doom3 :(

third step: now i've copied the mesafx file also to the windows/system32 folder... doom3 hangs now up with "Unable to load OpenGL system" in console  ::)

the MesaFX 6.2.0.2  opengl32.dll file is in the windows/system32 folder (no effect if i take the same like in the doom3 folder....)
the MesaFX  6.2.0.1.d3 file is in the doom3 folder

what am i doing wrong by installing the opengl part  ???

i don't know what to do.... 3dfx system info doesn't show SLI or Memory or something

I am to end with mine knowledge and like not more.... the only one way i see its to set up win98 and test with that... but i don't think it's running then

It is possible in Win98. I've taken this from x3dfx (originally posted by gc12)

Quote:
Install the game then,

- First download Hex Editor www.expertcomsoft.com/
- Second make a backup of the Doom III exe file.
- Third install Hex Editor and open the DoomIII exe (doom3.exe) within Hex Editor
- Fourth click edit on the toolbar to bring open a menu. Within the menu that appears click Find.
- Fifth put in the find box GlobalMemoryStatusEx Now press ENTER.
- Sixth you will now see highlighted GlobalMemoryStatusEx. The last 2 number of the line are 45 and 78. Change both numbers to 00. In other words change 45 to 00 and 78 to 00.
- Seventh save the new Doom3.exe and play to your hearts content

or

1. download any 'Hex Edit' utility
2. open Doom3.exe with it
3. find the next string 'GlobalMemoryStatusEx'
4. replace the 'Ex' with 00,00 in HEX MODE!!!
5. save it
6. Run and enjoy it

oukey i've seen there's also a possibility to change the doom3.exe by patching the files for v2  :D

i'm going to setup my pc tommorow with win98 and then we will see  :)

oukey win98se is installed...

fastvoodoo 4.0 GE and MesaFX for Doom3 is installed.... patch is done.. and now: the same like before: unable to initialize opengl..

dmn it's discussing  :-[ i think the ati catalyst is overriding some opengl features  :-/ some ideas ?

(voodoo driver now shows SLI detected and everythings fine)
but in the options for color adjust theres only glide and direct3d, opengl isn't listed  ::)

update: if i uninstall the radeon drivers same error will shown.

Noone an idea what to do to add opengl support to the 3dfx drivers ?

edit: so on..... changed from mesafx to wickedgl... and ? doom3 starts ! but hangs in console after the init.... will try one more time  ::)

try www.3dfxzone.it
These guys have tools,tweakers,etc.

This is the problem with the latest games. They don't
offer support or a legacy for old (but good) video-cards.
From this point of view a think that us,voodoo owners ,are doomed not to play the latest games simply because the game developers don't give a sh...,for us

Please, you are getting tears on my keyboard.

3dfx is dead and the number of machines owned by gamers running a 3dfx card is lower then whale sh*t at the bottom of the ocean.

Why should any company invest time and money dumbing down the latest and greatest game engines so they run on old hardware?

Have a new machine in the corner with a 9800Pro, that's what I did.

Not to sound harsh but ignoring reality isn't going to make 3dfx come back.

Yeah here's an idea:

read reviews and articles on the internet!
Get informed. Is it so hard to look something up?
