We'll the mods over at the America's Army forum say you can't run America's Army PC game with Voodoo cards.  Has anyone run this game using 3dAnalyzer and Voodoo 5 5500 PCI.  If you have or know how, could you give me some specifics or tricks that will help..  Thnxs..

The voodoo cards don't have the TnL chip evidently. And Nvidia who helped sponsor America's Army have excluded Voodoo cards from being able to play the game.  "Go figure since they bought out 3dfX a couple years ago, they don't support Voodoo cards anymore"

Its a full version game I got from a demo disk from PCGamer magazine.  (Nov. 2k2 issue)

One of the mods/techs over at the tommti-systems who make the 3dAnalyzer is going to look at my batch file and my log_dx8.out file to see if its configured properly..

Those mods over at the America's Army forums just go balistic when you ask about the Voodoo cards being able to work with AA.   They flat out say "its impossible"

Is anyone here familiar with the 3dAnalyzer and how to configure to run Voodoo 5 card and AA.  I'd like to compare with the info/directions I have already.  I keep getting the same message when I start up AA even after utilizing 3dAnalyzer saying it doesn't recognize my hardware..   I think its because its a PCI card and not AGP..?

America's Army does run on a Voodoo5.

The error Message is a fake, because the Launcher of the Game looks for any 3dfx Vendor ID's, and will automatically refuse to run if found. (go figure about NVidia Roll Eyes )

There were Hacked Game .exe's circulating around, as well as Instructions how to modify the .exe yourself with a Hex Editor.

After that, the Game reportedly ran "okay" under Win2k, although I never got further than the Menu when using Win9x (and various Drivers of that time).

3D Analyzer might help solve in-game Problems, but the biggest barrier is the artificial/fake error of the Launcher.

Note though, that I believe the Game received a new Engine with one of the latest Patches. So not all I wrote might be still 100% valid, although I stronly believe so. The Engine itself run's fine even on a Voodoo3, as UT2003 shows. I just don't know if America's Army uses the same version of the Engine.

I just re-read some of the old Stuff I remembered.

The File in Question is the d3ddrv.dll, that needed to be modified. (it was based on the Build 929 Engine, if I'm not mistaken). 2 Bytes need to be modifed, that's it.

Here's what I recovered :

(
File is available upon Request
)

That .dll is a modified one. It was made for the UT2003 Leak, but it should be the very same Engine Build 929, that it targets.

I'm still looking for the Instructions, and will post them when found.

--------- edit ----------
Okay, here's the Instructions :

Hex edit the d3ddrv.dll :

Find '1A12' in hex and change it 'DE10' or anything you like....

After that, the Anti-3dfx Check is bypassed. Any errors you're getting from now on, are true errors, Engine related, and can be tackled.

Best results were yielded with Win2k Drivers, as said...
Win9x Drivers seemed to have more significant problems at that time.

But with the vast increase of good 3rd Party Drivers (e.g. TDHQ, NuAngel and AmigaMerlin), it might be easier than before. Anything that did run the old UT2003 Leak, was able to do the same with the initial Release of America's Army as well.

Well, the file has been secured Smiley

I won't post it in the Archive, of course, and (for a worst case scenario) I will have to remove/edit the Link, so they/I won't get in trouble for still hosting/Linking it.
