Title: Tribes 2
Post by nudgegoonies on 19.07.04 at 21:48:21
Hi,
as you might have noticed, tribes and tribes 2 are released as freeware. In the requirements of tribes 2 is stated that a voodoo3 is faster than a voodoo4/5 for that game because of better texture swapping by the voodoo3 driver. Could this really be true?

http://www.planettribes.com/tribes2/requirements.shtml

Tribes 1 uses glide and runs absolutly smooth on my system. By the way, does anyone know a download location for tribes 2? The fileplanet download site is closed.

Regards,
Andreas

...and 22 hours with isdn (7.5 kb/s). But with 'old XXL' (all germans will know what i mean) this is no problem. At least i've found a .torrent version of tribes 2. I hope the download works as this is my first experience with bittorrent.

That texture swapping issue sound's very strange to me because there are some mod drivers that use the same files for voodoo3 and voodoo4/5. Too bad they don't mention the driver versions who show this behavour.

Regards,
Andreas

As far as I recall mate, the fileplanet download site for Tribes 2, has never been there!  :(

I remember getting a weekly newsletter when they were releasing the two, but looks like they never managed to get the second one launched on their site!  >:(

I emailed them, asking them when Tribes 2 would be up, but no reply! >:(

I got the first one, just waiting for the second to be hosted! ???

The file must have been online for a short period of time. But you had to register (for free) to get a valid cd key. There are several mirrors on the web where you can still download the file normally (no bittorrent). Just search for tribes2_gsi.exe and you'll find one. Getting a valid cd key is another story  :-/

Hi janskjaer,
i havn't forgot P.O.D. I'll post my results in the thread when i have more time.

Andreas

...nearly forgot. I don't have Tribes 2 yet. I'll download it on sunday. By the way, has no one results of the 3dmark 2000 64mb rendering test with a voodoo 3 3000(@166mhz, latest official driver) and a voodoo 4 (@166mhz,no texture compression, latest official driver) in the same system?

Andreas

Not a problem getting a CD-Key. I'll just say I'm a student, so we have our ways! ;)

ftp://ftp.fz.se/pub/spel/tribes2/tribes2_gsi.exe

Who needs bittorrent ;)

A new sequel to a game comes out and the old version is released as freeware - we got used to it :)

You have to register yourself to download and as a consequence you get tons of e-mails - we got used to it :'( ...and have our hotmail adresses for that purpose :P

That offer is limited by time, count of people who registered, etc (remember steam?)- we got used to it  >:(

@DenisF
your results are from 3DMark2001 who has no synthetic 64MB rendering test (according your results). Do you have results from 3DMark2000 online?

@janskjaer
Great 'Personalized Picture' really 8). I wish your Signature would also be so  ;)

Andreas
