3Dfx enviroment variables
27.05.05 at 18:27:21

Can anyone help me with a description of 3Dfx enviroment variables (I want to know what each one do). For example, what is the effect of dither_rotation? Thanks.

There is a full description of all 3dfx Tweaks existing here :

http://www.falconfly.de/reference.htm
(Bottom of the page, 3dfx Tools Registry Tweaks)

Code:

SSTH3_DITHER_ROTATION
The following registry key enables or disables the dither matrix rotation. Dithering is only applicable for 16bpp targets.

Card | Supported | User Control
Banshee | N | N
Voodoo3 | N | N
Napalm | Y | N

Functionality | Value | Comment
Disable | 0 | Disable dither matrix rotation.
Enable | 1 | Enable dither matrix rotation
Default | 1 | Enabled.

It appears to be a way to make 16bit Dithering more smooth by avoiding a strictly ordered Dithering.
Such is prone to create visible dithering patterns, reducing overall visual Quality.

Hm, you might want to have a look at the X-3dfx Community Drivers and the contained .inf Files .

Those already included almost all useful and less useful Tweaks existing; in specific also the NuAngel5 (Win9x) and latest Nuangel2k (www.nuangel.net) Drivers.

Exactly what I had in mind. After familiarizing with the full-options release (x-3dfx-c) I intend to give it a try to make compatible a newer VSA-100 driver release with the Voodoo 3 in Win9x by .inf modding.

.inf Modding will only get you to a certain point, therefor there's actually not much point anymore in doing it.

Everything today revolves around the new DirectX and OpenGL Cores to open new doors; .inf Mod's however have long reached what was possible with them.

Still, go ahead and make it the best you can, that's how everybody did it in the past Smiley
