yeah I really think It's gonna be ATi's big comeback and I hope it's gonna be like the one with the good ole Raddy 9700 Pro Smiley

It's a shame that thier new card is so big, compared to the Radeon X800 and X850 series, thier new one is about 125% thier size!

Nice!!

Didn't really want to bridge 2 cards together. I figured the next generation card would blow away the dual setup.

Yea Obi. The AGP version is nicked named Fudo.
The R520 has a clock speed of 600Mhz, a full 150Mhz faster than nVidia GeForce 7800. It's Memory speed is 1400Mhz gddr3. 32 Pipelines? atleast 24 thou

The Reason why I think ATI took so long is because their working on the Xbox 360, which is supposed to be released later this year, so it took longer. Thou I think this hurt ATI a little bit, but I'm sure people will buy that once they figure out its better by a noticable margin.

I myself I don't like PCI cards, unless it's on an old system and it's the Voodoo 1. I have a 16x pci express slot but I just don't like them. I hope ATI will release a all-in-woner R520 AGP. Well, anyways, I'm waiting for it to come out (Middle October, bout a month), so then prices on the ATI a-i-w x800 agp should drop.

I have a ATI 9800 Pro a-i-w agp, but it seems like within 3 months games won't be able to play. Like with HL2, back when it was 1st release the ATI 9800 Pro a-i-w played it flawlessly @ 1024x768 AAx4 AFx4 with 512mb ram, now I had to upgrade my ram in order to play near those levels, 1024x768 AAx2 AFx2 1gig ram in dual channel. It lags a tad, but barely noticable.

I never used nVidia, but if they make very fast card with a TV Tuner and AGP, I probably just might switch to them. ATI and ATI based cards are the only TV Tuners out there, so I stick with them.

BTW thanx for posting the screen shots.

yeah norries, The last best NV card made was thier GeForce4 Ti4600, and I still got it here, after that the bad stuff came, thier FX series aka GF5 series was a shock in life for the most people that had one, the GF6 and 7 series have lots of Image Quallity errors, something I have never seen on my previous and common state ATi cards like the 9700 Pro and 9800 Pro, okay not much difference between the R300 and R350 the only difference was that the R350 had HyperZIII+ and the R300 had just plain HyperZIII Wink

After the R350 I bought a Laptop with the Mobile R420 with 8pipes, 4 Vertex units and 110mil transistors aka the Mobillity Radeon 9800 with 256Bit 256MB DDRII 2.5ns from Hynx, it's actually an X800SE AGP in a Laptop, and yes it's very fast, I run HalfLife2 @ 1280 x 800 x32 FSAA x6 AF x16 with about 87 fps.

3 mounths after that the X800XT PE AGP was purchased for my Dual OpteronDP 244 system, a R420 with 160 Million Transistors, 16 pipes and 6 vertex units, it does about +65% the performance more of the MR9800 Smiley

Anyways the R520 XT PE AGP would be my main ATi aim , but I don't think it would be nessisary , since I have 2 very good working R420's in my backhand, though it would be nice to have ofcourse  8)

Okay Ati FanATics!!!

look at this, a review of ATi's ATi Radeon X1800XT !!! WHoo hoo Hoo!!

...
http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=2666&s=1

Let's let the fun begin!

Radeon X1800 (R520) Series

▪ X1800 XT Crossfire Edition : 16 pipelines, 10vs, 650MHz core, 1400MHz memory, Composition Engine
▪ X1800 XT : 16 pipelines, 10vs, 650MHz core, 1400MHz memory
▪ X1800 Pro : 16 pipelines, 550MHz core, 1250MHz memory
▪ X1800 XL : 16 pipelines, 500MHz core, 1000MHz memory
▪ X1800 LE : 12 pipelines, 450MHz core, 900MHz memory

Edit:
the X1800XT and X1800XT CrossFire editons have 16 pipes and not 24 as I requested ! Wink

and over here we see that a single ATi X1800XT can score at default speeds a clean score of about 8600 points in 3D Mark05 with an A64FX 55 CPU setup 8)

http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=2667&s=1

" According to preliminary tests done by our friends at HKEPC, R520XT clocked at 650MHz core and 1400MHz memory will score ~8600 on 3DMark05 using FX-55, nearly 1K higher than GeForce 7800GTX at 430/1200MHz."

Now that is PURE PWNAGE!

I wonder how a CorssFire set would perform like Lips Sealed

Very nais!

I will keep everyone informed when new info arrises Smiley

Actually it seems ATi is left behind nVidias aggressive product cycle - 7800 series are in masses while r520 is only previewed. So this means when r520 will be out in masses, quite soon we can see nvidia throwing out a new generation.  People hate to wait (remember what happened to v5 vs gf2), and if ATi won't release a good value mainstream product line (as they had a failture with x series) they will simply loose market share.
Also, just look into history facts and you'll see how nvidia releases products - when ATi comes to take performance lead, nvidia releases a new product (or drivers) which instantly pisses them off. I guess, nvidia just keeps tech reserved, so they can kill easily everyone who comes to take the performace lead.

yeaps true, it is known that History does repeat it's self, you got point there R21vo Wink

But I think that ATi has also something nice up thier sleeves, thier R520 XT has only 16 pipes not 24 as listed above but it does have 10 vertex units and a 512bit crossed mem controller or something like that, and 1.26 ns GDDR3 @ 1400Mhz and really ATi has been famous of by doing more with much less.

in FS 2004 @ 1600x 1200 max details FSAA x4 AF x8 a single X800XT PE AGP with 16 pipes score about the same amount of frames per sec as a SLiSet of 2 6800 Ultra's those 6800U's have 16 pipes each and 222Mil transistors each while the ATi has 16 Pipes and 160Mil Transistors stand alone.

So I think that the X1800XT is gonna be a great thing, ATi is good at new things.

Well Yes nVidia also has some nice things but the overall difference between the 6800 and 7800 series is rather small.

the biggest difference is the TSAA effect with MSFSAA on the 7800 boards combined with HDR.

Just a smal improvement, it's not like major jumps from Voodoo Graphics to Voodoo2 or from TNT2 to GeForce 256.
The gaps just get smaller and smaller.

Hi Obi, I got some important info I search earlier about these top end cards.

ATI x800 has pixel shader 2.0b, but it can do HDR with 3Dc from ATI.

The ATI R520 has Pixel Shader 3.0 and fully supports HDR.

3Dc seems like a program hack. HDR is supported on Pixel Shader 3.0. GeForce 6800 has that, and a few others, not any from ATI yet.

I am now hesitant, should I go with the x1800? or the next one up to come, the R580, or stick with the x800 a-i-w agp I'm planing on buying? I'm a fan of TV tuner and AGP. I hope those options are available. I just don't like PCI express video cards.

well the GeForce 6800/7800 cards arn't bad either, they are best at OpenGL apps and the ATi X850/1800 cards are best at Direct3D Apps. the 7800GTX is great in HalfLife2 thanx to it's HDR with Multi Grid FSAA with TSAA Wink

it really depends what you do most.
