When I try to run 3dfx TV it says that it requires Microsoft WebTV for windows to be installed, and gives instructions what to do.. so, I go to windows setup, but I can see nooo WebTV there.??? what happen? somebody set me up the bomb? I mean, I had this software on my pc some months ago and it worked fine. Don't tell me I have to reinstall the whole freakin' 98 just to get this working.. any help would be appreciated. (reinstalling windows is not a big deal, yeah, but all the programs installed and modifications done to it afterwards.. gahh)

Oh...
Well, it looks like you installed the wrong Software Version. There are 2 basic, different Versions when it comes to 3dfx TV Software : a) WebTV b) VfW (Video for Windows) I know it is buried somewhere in one of the ReadMe Files, but can't find the exact thing right now. I think this had to do with different formats of Video Replay, where US Versions of Windows 9x apparently ship with another Variant, than Non-US Versions. Installing the wrong one for your Region can lead to this (and much more strange) errors. (I reckon WebTV was for US-Based Systems, and VfW for non-US, if I remember correctly) I recommend you uninstall all 3dfx Tools & Software, and additionally restore your Registry. Latter is important, because some critical Registry Settings used to get overwritten with wrong Data, if the wrong regional Driver or Software were installed. Use true MS-DOS (via Boot-Menu at Startup , press F8 ) and enter "Scanreg /RESTORE" to choose from one of usually 5 intact copies of your Windows Registry (pick a date before you encountered the error). If you don't have WebTV installed, it looks like you need a VfW Variant.... |

Mm.. thanks for the assistance! I really appreciate it. though.. I think I downloaded the same version, possibly even the very same file from your archives, when I last had this running (working, almost ok..). Non-US version of 3dfx visual reality.. heh. oh well, tricky things these. Possibly some sort of complication going on with drivers and/or registry, yeah..
*sips tea* One more thing popped in my head just now.. I remember having trouble getting colors in TV picture last time, as well as finding channels (it didn't find anything with auto search.. uh, actually it did, but it skipped them, or didn't save them to any channel slots or something) and I couldn't capture anything (it just said: "couldn't capture" or so, no additional info) I also have this.. problem. I've got TV-OUT connected via S-video - scart connector, but if I select S-video from TV tab, I get black&white picture only. Even if I set signal type to Finland, (where I live) I still get b&w picture. I also tried every possible options from that selection box. But.. if I change connector selection to composite, I get normal colors.. I think that's weird. There's no real problem with that itself, but after making that selection I have to boot up, and when I return to windows, screen is all scrambled up. On my monitor, that is, TV screen isn't showing anything until I 90% blind, fool around and open up 3dfx tools, switch to TV tab and then, *baam*. Monitor goes blank and I see picture in TV screen with normal colors and everything (without making any selections. Opening the TV tab is enough). Could this have something to do with driver complications? I'm not even sure if my card is US or European version.. I got this pc as a christmas present a year ago (my friend's old). Oh, and Special thanks to you, FalconFly, and the rest of the folks maintaining these forums, site, everything.. we 3dfx lovers most likely wouldn't make it without a place like this. Hmm...
I'm afraid I'm out of my league with those Video Out/POD Connector Options, because I never used these features on my own V3-3500/TV If your problems would have been there all the time, I could have recommended trying also the V3-3500 Region selector, but if you say the exact same Driver/VisualReality combination used to work fine, I'm out of ideas... :-/ One possibility could be to use another TV Application (if feasible). See : http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/ It received alot of recommendations, and it's Free. Might be worth a shot... |
