It Works!- Medal of Honor Allied Assault
30.06.03 at 07:05:58

I just picked up Medal of Honor Allied Assault at my local Wal-Mart for $19.99 ( I know it's been out a while but when you are unemployed and on the cheap, you wait till you can afford it )

I have a VooDoo 5500 AGP running on a old Abit BH6 mobo with a PIII 550 with 256mb of ram and a 300 watt power supply on Win98SE with DirectX 8.1 ( know you really know how poor/cheap I am )

Knowing that it was an "EA Games" distribution and with all the grief I had with BF1942 and my Voodoo 5500, I just knew that MOHAA was going to take some tweaking and lots of scouring the forums for the right combination to get MOHAA to work.

Well, my persistence paid off and here is how I got MOHAA to work and work very well:

first, the drivers and tools:  3dHQ  V1.09.00  Beta10
   ( obviously you should get them here at falconfly )
   ( I have been using these drivers/tools for a good )
   ( while now and I am pleased with there    compatability )

next, goto:  http://www.erie.net/~nuangel/index.htm
                         OR
            http://www.velocity.net/~culver_c/

this is NuAngel's site, on the main page near the middle you will find a link for the FINAL "WickedGL" release with info - download it.
   ( Since I did not really need WickedGL for anything else )
   ( I just installed WickedGL into a "Extra Stuff" folder  )
   ( I keep on my desktop so I could just get to the 1 file )
   ( that I/We need )

My MOHAA is (US version 1.0 or MOHAA.exe  ver 1,0,0,1 ) <- both are the same
I did NOT upgrade with the latest patches
I did use the original CD's to install, so please keep that in mind.

Once you install MOHAA, restart and then go explore, mine is located at:
   ( C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\MOHAA )

OK, you should be where the MOHAA.exe file is now, look around right there for 2 specific files;
   3dfxgl.dll    ->  138KB in size  -> rename it to  OLD3dfxgl.dll
   voodoogl.dll  ->  909KB in size  -> rename it to  OLDvoodoogl.dll

*** these are the crappy files EA puts in that do not work very well for 3DFX people ***

Now, go explore to where you installed the WickedGL files and find the 1 file called
   ogl_hres.dll  ->  340KB in size

Make a copy of that file and put it in the same place where you renamed those 2 crappy files.

Now rename the ogl_hres.dll file you just copied into your MOHAA folder to OpenGL32.dll

OK, we are almost finished, now while you are in the MOHAA folder, you should see a folder called  "main" open it,  now in the "main" folder you should see a file called "newconfig"  make a copy of that file and put the copy someplace safe for now.

OK, now open up the file "newconfig" with something like notepad and add this line at the very bottom:  ( be sure that it is not already in there first, just in case )

         seta r_ext_compressed_textures 1

Hit save, close the file

*** very important ***  after you close the "newconfig" file you MUST right click on it, scroll down to "properties" and change the file to a "Read-only" file - be sure the only check is in "Read-only"  then hit apply and then OK.

( This way the game will not reset the settings each time )

OK, only 1 more config file to change and we are done..

Now, while you are right there where the "newconfigfile" is you should see another folder called  "configs"  open that folder up,  in there you will see another config file named something like "unnamedsoilder" and/or something like that, make a copy of it as well and place the copy somewhere safe for now.

now open "unnamedsoilder" or whatever it is called up with notepad.

scroll down to the bottom and look for the line:
       seta r_ext_compressed_textures "0"

it should be around the 3rd line up from the bottom/last line

change it to this:
       seta r_ext_compressed_textures "1"

all you did is just make the 0  into a 1  and do not change anything else
   ( do NOT remove the " " that go around the number )

now save it and again make this file a "Read-only" file just like you did the previous one so that it will not reset the settings each time.

Restart and then have the original disk #1 in your CD/DVD player and see what happens, hopefully, you will see the EA startup screen, then the MOHAA screen and then the opening movie, also you should be good to go with the menus all being correctly aligned.

Here are some settings that might help even more:

in 3dhq tools, turn ON  Vertical Sync under the  Glide/OpenGL tab

Also, try the game at 640*480*32 with 2XFSAA ON  ( if slow, then just turn off FSAA )

Try also High/Med texture detail 32bpp with 16Bit textures.

Also try enabled high/maximum model detail AND high/maximum terrain detail

( these settings here depend on you machine of course )

If you need a No CD crack, you can find it at:
   www.megagames.com

look for this specific crack:
   Medal of Honor v1.0 [FRENCH] No-CD-Fixed EXE
   by Squaresoft74

It works just fine with the US version 1.0 or MOHAA.exe 1,0,0,1  <-  Same thing

Sorry if I was somewhat long-winded on this post but after getting it working I really wanted other VooDoo owners to be able to enjoy this game as well.

I really hope it works for you guys cause the game is a blast to play

Thanks go to "JoFSh" cause it one of his post I found at 3dxtreme.org that really helped out.

Same here, I even used the standard 3dfx V1.04.00 Reference Drivers for my Voodoo5 (using Win98SE) .

The Game's .ini Settings just required a few tweaks to eliminate Visual Artefacts, but it was very playable.

With WickedGL, you should get a small performance boost Smiley

the game runs perfectly on voodoo2 w/ or w/o  SLI   Wink

I just had to copy-paste wicked GL's  opengl32.dll

BTW it runs nice on any video card, given you have a powerful CPU ( ~ 1ghz)

Hello! (from France)

     Contrary to the precedents posts, on my Pc (Athlon 1.2 Gz on MSI/VIA K7T266, Ram 256 DDR, Win98SE, DX 8.1b, Voodoo5 ovclk 182 Mz on drv 1.04.01 with hsr à 4) as soon as I entered in Medal of Honor, I had flashes intermittent, impossible to play it.

     I thus followed your instructions, Stage, and... it's works, MoH run now on my Pc, there are no more intermittent flashes, extraordinary, I did believe no more in it!!! I play it even in 800x600, color depth 32, texture detail high, trilinear and more without activating the compression of textures! The fps (seta fps "1") run between 22 and 40. There where that becomes a little just (tight), it's when I activate the texture depth on 32, it's all.

     Really thanks Stage and the forum YaBB, FalconFly and its site where one finds all the essential 3dfx, as well as to the brilliant author of Wicked3D : congratulations!

     Remain 2 questions...

     1) What is 3dhq tools ? There is no file having this name in the page of downloads.  I know that there are 2 kinds of drivers, those which are delivered with tools (about 8 megs) and the others without (about 2 or 3 megs). If I want to put the drv 1.09 bêta 10 (about 2,7 megs thus no tools?), must I install at first the drv 1.08.04 or Amigamerlin 29 (about 8-9 megs thus with tools) then after the drv 1.09 bêta 10 ??

     2) I hesitate to change driver/bios. I know that they will be probably more powerful (speed and quality) BUT will they be as stable that my current 1.04.01 and bios 1.06?? Which are more stable,  3dhq 1.09 bêta10, Amigamerlin29 or Mikepedo11 ??

     Thanks in advance for response...
