Title: Timeline 1995-2002, all GFX cards and CPU's. Post by Tim on 19.10.08 at 02:39:53
I modified Accelenation's ( http://accelenation.com/?ac.id.123.1 ) picture a little bit, might help you if you need to figure out a platform for a certain year for benching or testing a card.
There might be one or two errors in it, but it should generally speaking be correct, let me know if there is anything wrong. It's mainly for my own reference, but didn't think it would hurt to share. Enjoy. :) ps. I've got, apart from 3 or so, all of these GFX cards in my possession, and almost all high end GFX cards from 2003 as well, which aren't in that picture, and a lot more brand specific 3DFX (& Quantum3D) cards. (obviously ;) ) |

The list looks nice but there are some cards missing and others that are placed at wrong dates. What time frame is to be considered? For instance the Voodoo Rush acording to TDG timeline we have the following:
November 18, 1996- At Comdex Hercules and 3dfx show off Rush 128/3d "sandwich card." April 1997- Hercules 128/3d Rush released. June 1997- Hercules single plane 128/3d Rush released. In the ATI corner you forgot to include Radeon 7000 & 7500 don't know the exact dates for them. In the Others or 3Dlabs corner you have to include the Wildcat(1) 4210 (the high-end model) and Wildcat II 5110... All and all a very interesting idea to correlate CPU's and "GPU"s within a given time frame. Cheers, G1nX |

Indeed a nice list, but I also have the Question about the timeframe.
IMHO on such lists it is usually shown when the cards were released upto the time their main production ended (latter might be the most difficult part), indicating their era from introduction to manufacturer end-of-life. (otherwise might be confusion, since some cards were announced and never released, others took a long time from announcement to release etc.) AFAIK the original Radeon wasn't called Radeon 256 but just Radeon plus derivates like Radeon VE (the 256 came with the first GeForce DDR I think). Like mentioned above, later was followed by Radeon 7000, 7200 and 7500. |

The list from accelenation shows the time between announcement and release of videocards.
As for the Radeon 7000 and 7500; those are the first generation Radeon cards (Radeon 256 & VE). ATi simply renamed them when the 8500 was released. |

Hm, the 7000 and 7200 were SD-RAM cards with different clocks as far as I know.
The 7500 was far better performing due to DDR RAM (I used and still own one). Technically that would make them different, but the way I see it the table is only for GPU Generations (not Evolutions) correct ? |
