Title: Quantum Drivers Post by nudgegoonies on 08.10.03 at 22:28:58
Here http://www.quantum3d.com/support/eol.html or here http://www.quantum3d.com/support/index.html you can still find official quantum3d drivers. It seems that all drivers from the first end-of-life link are already on falconfly's site (according to versionnumbers-i havn't downloaded em all). From these AAlchemy's on the other link i dont't know which ones are VSA based.
I don't have a q3d. The reason i found this link was that i was experimenting with opengl wrappers for my voodooł (wgl, gldirect, etc.) and wanted to look what simgl is. There i found the links above. Regards, Andreas |

i think that these drivers are simply modified versions of the final 3dfx drivers. if you look at the inf file in the drivers, this revision (44) was created 11/18/2000. ill bet 3dfx had a contract with Q3D to create the drivers for them, although the drivers obviously use the quantum3d name, as opposed to 3dfx. the readme gives instructions to install in nt4.0 sp5, and revisions are for things like p4 optimization and string variable settings, among other things. i think Q3D is stuck in about the same boat as we are, although they have a little bit...higher paid resources to work with.

The opengl/simgl part of the driver seems totally different. There are 3 simgl wrappers (simgl to glide2x, glide3x and d3d) but simgl isn't 100% compatible to opengl. No gl-apps that i tried worked (there was one that switched to fullscreen but then it quits). I gave up with q3d drivers.

amp_man, Q3d drivers are /different/ drivers...
3dfx gave Q3d the source to work off of for their mainstream products, Obsidians, Aalchemys, etc... |

yea, but they're still basically the same, they aren't dx9 compatible or anything. and the simgl part is different, but i think that's just for use with the AAlchemy and simulation applications, not general gaming |

Exactly, there is no need for them to provide dx support or update the driver as they only /really/ deal with ogl and simgl...
