I have an old pentium II 350Mhz cooler and I wanted to use it to cool the memory.
I have the same board as the 9500pro, with the "I" mem, where could I put it to cool better?

Am I correct that you intend to mount this Slot1 Cooler onto your Radeon 9500 Memory ?!

If so, I reckon this will be much too heavy, unless you cut it into several, RAM-Sized or stripes of pieces and find a way to safely attach it. (if any part of it would ever drop off, it'd probably cause you a really bad day)  :-X

Most guys I've seen, use small old 486 or (max.) small 586 Coolers (cut into the right size) as custom RAM heatsinks.

but if I put the cooler only in the back of the gpu, hopefully it could cool the gpu and consequently also low the temp of the memory ???

With placing anything on the back of the GPU, you have to be very careful not to allow the Heatsink to touch any electrical components (extreme Risk of short-circuit!)

Overall, not an easy Task.

I'd recommend visiting some known ATI Forums, where other Modders already left Threads about their own Mods, and what you'll have to take care about when doing it yourself. :)

PS.
Memory temps are independent from GPU Temps, as they are  clocked separately.
Looking at some Vendor Stock heatsinks (Backside GPU and RAM), you'll probably see the best examples of simple but effective solutions.

passive cooled 2nd generation cards with less than 128mb need it for proper gaming, believe me!  ;) well, with at least 128mb it's just a safety option.
