Title: Voodoo3 on NFS4
Post by Girrari on 13.02.04 at 00:55:09
I've instaled my Voodoo 3 2000 PCI 16Mb card on my Celeron 300 with 96 RAM.

I have Windows ME, DX 8.0 and original 1.07.00 driver installed.

Card is recognized by "3D setup" and menu works fine, but the game twiches and it's very slow. I' running it on 800x600 resolution, Special effects on medium and horizon too. Car detail is set on high (but I use dashboard).

I'm guessing it's the driver or DX problem.

If someone has that card, please help me! Which driver and DX should I use.

I'm a great NFS4 fan and I can't play my favourite game for more than a year (I have T-Bird 900, 512 RAM with Geforce 4 Mx440 64 DDR, but that card is just not compatible with NFS4).

I used to have Voodoo 2 acc. and it worked great.

No NFS4 support with V3? Well, some of the persons around here know a "Enhanced NFS..." driver sollution that should be nearly 100% W9x compatible, they know how to direct you that file...

Besides that, you are trying to run NFS4 with card set as D3d or Glide? Driver set 1.07 might require Dx8.1. It's just a possibility.

OK. I my 3Dfx tools I have 3 options:
1. Glide
2. Direct 3D
3. Desktop

When I set it on Glide od D3D, I click OK, but when I go back to the menu, it is back on desktop. I don't know why.

NFS4 is Need for Speed 4 High Stakes

Read above, and make a search for "Enhanced NFS..." You should find out what you need.

I once ran NFS4 on my voodoo1 (with a P166 and windoze 95 at the time)
I thought it looked great in 512x384 ;D

had the same problem with my voodoo2 years ago...well, it ran fine with my voodoo3 some months later  :-/
this seems to be a very odd nfs4 specific problem...anyway, maybe you have more luck trying a cracked .exe, sometimes it solves this problem (i hope you bought the game, anyway  ;) )
if not, try latest patch or decrease your performance settings
