Title: Need help getting an AA5 to work
Post by Queso on 10.05.15 at 22:41:08
Hey everyone,
I've been collecting parts to make my own Aalchemy system. So far, it's been a pain to get the damn thing running right, but I got as far as getting the properties tab to show in windows xp. I'm glad that the psu and the card works seems to work fine, but I can't run the test. It gives me this error:
"LoadLibrary failed for file C:\windows\system32\obsidian2\glide3xr.dll: the specified module could not be found."

I'm a little new to this...but could someone please help point me into the right direction? thanks!

Sounds to me like XP is looking for the Glide part of your drivers, and can't find it.  Now, if you installed it, and it can't find it, then that is a major issue.  If you haven't installed them, then it won't work until you do.

Install the latest AAlchemy display driver via WinXP device Manager, apply my registry fix to get the properties tab and you should be good to go.

AA5 V4.6 driver:

Registry fix for XP:

Hmm...I do have the latest driver installed along with the registry fix. I also installed opengvs,  and the same error shows when trying to run a benchmark.

Could it be possible that the problem comes from using a voodoo 5 as a primary display adapter? This motherboard doesn't like my geforce cards, so this is the only agp card that works.

This could be the case, yes. You should try a different primary card.

Update: I finally got it to work! I'm using a matrox card and the same model motherboard but different physical board. I think the first one was causing me problems.  :D

Just a note...never mix different 3dfx cards in a system, it won't know what card  to use since they all use glide :)

Was the same when using a voodoo3 + voodoo2 SLI......never worked

In the past, I have mixed 3dfx cards in the same system. V5 with V1 and V5 with V2. The glide version are different between this cards. There's a simple utility to switching the Glide files in the Windows system folder.

To install, just take a look at the readme file.
