Is there anything special about the brown CD besides being brown? ???

Title: Re: 3dfx Related eBay Auctions (10/05 edition)
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 30.10.05 at 23:03:24
Ithink that the Brown CD is for the Voodoo3 1000 AGP, the Purple ones for the Voodoo3 2000 AGP & PCI the Green CD's for the Voodoo3 3000 AGP's and the Blue CD's for the 3000 PCI's and the blue CD's with the spot markings under the faces eyes are meant for the Voodoo3 3500 TV AGP's.

Anyways that would be my dscriptions to the coloured CD's for all of the 3dfx/STB Voodoo3 series.

If you'd look before you post, you'd see that the manual in one of the images clearly says "Avid". There is no mention of Aavid anywhere.

"As I may request we Humanoids & Jedi can make mistakes from time to time and therefore nobody is perfect"

I did mean Avid, can you tell me why there has been 3DFX stated on that item ?

But to stay ontopic here are some more nice items:

here a 3dfx Voodoo3 1000 AGP 16MB with warranty:
http://cgi.ebay.com/3dfx-Voodoo-3-1000-16mb-AGP-Video-Card-W-Warranty_W0QQitemZ8713691069QQcategoryZ40157QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Take note , that the Bonesteel actually the same card is as a Velocity 100 AGP but then it's Bios states it as a Gateway Bonesteel Voodoo3 1000 AGP with 8192KB of ram.

The card has 1 TMU enabled instead of 2 TMU's enabled that the 3dfx Voodoo3 1000 AGP 16MB SGRAM & Compaq Voodoo3 1000 AGP 16MB SGRAM has.

yeaps a GeForce3 Ti200 indeed my Uncle has that card, what a goofball that seller, these are sellers that should be avoided. What also visable is, that it has an AGP x4 connector, I don't recall that Voodoo3's have AGP x4 connectors, only AGP x2 and PCI 2.1

V6K update:

What a relief 8)

I had a private offer of 300US$ and was afraid after turning it down that it might not make it up there.

Although my reserve was set at $199 the only purpose with that was only to hold the item long enough for someone that "Had to Have It" could BIN the item for $400.

Not everyone likes ebay. Some would prefer private deals. I find it very exciting for both as buyer and as seller. I too have had my share of bad experiences on ebay but, all in all, I have had a lot of fun on it. Although not a hardcore 3dfx collector, I do have a very select few collectibles that if it weren't for ebay, I wouldn't be here @ FalconFly nor would I have ever owned anything but the 3 cards I bought retail (Diamond Monster 1, Voodoo3 2000 AGP, Voodoo5 5500 AGP). In my wildest dreams I never would have imagined owning a complete fully functional Mercury System. The 100SB 4440 seemed like an attainable goal but slightly out of reach as the cost was around $1895.

I know, I need to get back on topic ;)

I just wanted to let all of you here "The 3dfx Archive" know how much I appreciate each and everyone of you. I have made a lot of friend here and I am proud to call this place my home. :)

hmm 5500 AGPx4 is rare but not Ultra rare, I've seen wierder things hehe, anyway this is still a nice card, 5500 AGP x4's can indeed go up to 460 Euro's aka 500 US Dollars if I'm not mistaken, but it also depends on what the seller wants for that device.

but about the town of Slovenia in America, I'm not sure of that, though everything is possible :)

I think I can hang another hour watch it play out. Makes me wonder who else, not on the bid history, is lurking in the shadows waiting to snipe a bid at the last second :o

If somebody wants V3-3500TV in white box (new) - here is your chance :) There are 65 of them. 10 items = one big original 3dfx package box as a bonus :) Though to pay $290 + $70-130 shipping to Europe for 10 cards will be tough IMHO.

jes the epox boards are great. i can run my XP-M 2600+ at 2700Mhz for some benching events... but mosfets get very hot so i put a cooler on it, i will also add some heatsinks.

so be careful if you use a strong CPU. Keep in mind that these boards were not designed for 3200+ or more...

Thanx for the great link man :D The Force Feels strong here very strong!

@ TM30

I have a nice AthlonXP Thoroughbred-B 2700+ CPU fast enough for Glide games with V5 ;) The 2700+'s only difference with the 3000+ is that it has 256KB L2 and the 3000+ has 512KB L2 instead, they both run @ 2167Mhz and i think it isn't worth changing CPU, because I don't OC either, the performance difference between an AXP 2700+ and an AXP 3000+ would only be a mere 3 a 5 % not worth the upgrade.

Slightly offtopic :

Keep in mind that the EPoX 8K3A can suffer from leaking capacitors.

The board at eBay :

Looking at the capacitor right above the LPT port, it's brown.

Looking at the capacitors near the socket, they are bold and leaking.

So people who are using these boards, check your capacitors. When they are leaking it's better to replace them as soon as possible  :)

well it may not even be the original photo from the board I purcased, maybe an example of it, but they are replacable indeed.

Maybe I should ask the seller for more detailed info, what do you other people think? Should I go just goahead with it or skip it, though i did win that Auction.

Well Thandor yau have sharp eyes indeed the seller saw them too he mentioned that also , he wanted to give me half price for it, well since my hands are too shakey to soldeer things I skipped it and really the seller was understanding my mail and he really told me everything:

"Willem:

The photo is not the original but I wanted to check the Auction's board for this deficiency. I found several caps with swollen tops, which is not only an indication of excessive heat, but as well, a pre-stage to leakage. It's not possible for me to schedule exchanging the caps for another 6-weeks. However, because the board is in otherwise great shape and performs so well, I will offer it to you for 1/2 of what you bid ($25.00). The capacitors are only 80 cents, so I'm thinking there is an adequate cushion of savings there for your time.
I snip the bad cap from the top and push the old lead-tip out with the new cap's lead (that way you only have to heat it once). Obviously, you stay mindful of the components original orientation, and I habitually use alligator clips (heat sink) on the lead I'm soldering. Many say you don't need to use the heat sink, but I'm frequently over-cautious when working w/ small components.
What ever you want to do, I will try to go along.... that includes cancelling out the bid. You're keen observation is to be complimented.
Kind regards,   Steve"

So I did give him a possitive feedback because his mail back was verywell explained what he also saw what is wrong with the mobo, But I told him that I rather look for a mobo which is good for use I just don't want to take risks, thanks for your Eagle Eyes!

But I got another one on my scopes ;)

I'm a little shocked to tell you the truth!!! I found this site, it looked as if it was of a friendly nature, I initially posted my eBay auction in an incorrect manner, WHICH was rightfully removed (although some explanation in the form of a Private Message would have been nice as well as courteous), so I then found this thread: 3dfx Related eBay Auctions (10/05 edition). Now, I don't have any majors in the English language, I can read, write and type english quite well, I assumed this thread was meant for eBay type auctions¿ hence the thread title...am I correct¿ I think yes.

Hm, the link you provided isn't a direct EBay link (you're using a service comparable to "MakeaShorterLink"), but that's perfectly fine.

The service shouldn't be required though, the Forum can easily take the full (long) EBay link... anyway it's no Problem, fits here just fine :)
Some just may not know the free makeashorterlink.com or tinyurl.com Services, thus incorrectly assuming you're linking to an entirely private sale I guess.

(Explanation, since I didn't follow your Previous sales posts : Private EBay sales indeed aren't welcome in the Marketplace but I don't have any heartburns with people placing their private 3dfx EBay sales here . You shouldn't run into any problems, if you do please drop me a note :) )

Sorry but there is still one thing the Voodoo4 4500 PCI isn't rare at all it's just a common massproduction 3dfx card. lol ::) ::)

@ Habbs,

Well the seller also told me that I can decline that sale and he does understand that in anyway possible, so I did that it was just too risky in my possition but I can Mail him that you would like to but that board that wouldn't be such a problem, unless he allready sold it to the previous bidder ofcourse. ;)

update!!!

Habbs'I've mailed the Seller for your interest to the board ;) so I gave the seller your email so he can mail you back ;)

Sure, but the Thread Title does not read :
Rare 3dfx Related eBay Auctions (10/05 edition)

So technically there's nothing wrong with it, unless we start seeing bulk Voodoo1's (or alike) hitting the Thread in numbers... (at which point I may change the policy, but until that day things remain 'as is')

RARE 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 PCI (32MB) graphics card...

that is what I was aiming at because it does say that, which we all know isn't true a Voodoo4 4500 PCI isn't that rare at all. ;)

Which in my book is fine- The one in the "for sale" section was removed because FF states in the rules that Ebay sales are not permitted there and the other was removed as it was in the "general section" with a for sale tag.

Both were removed to tidy things up since the matter seemed to be pretty much closed.

Since this is a Ebay auction thread it's perfectly fine here.

Speculation as to if it's rare or not is open to member debate ;-)

This guy is NOT a n00b! If that was all that was wrong with it then why doesn't he just flash it back. Then he could sell it as functional.  :-X

For that reason alone I would stay away. I have no use for a dead V6K.

yes indeed!

everyone who would make a bad bios flash on a 6000K would ask in any forum for help...

(answer: take a PCI VGA card and flash it back...)

so i think the card is really dead, not because of the "wrong" bios...

Ouch! That's a bit harsh. I would just say maybe not trustworthy.?.?

It makes me sad to see people try to take advantage of others all just to make a buck $$. Integrity, honesty and trustworthiness is something that you spend a lifetime building among friends. A man is only as good as his word. It is a shame to sell yourself short like that :'(

I totally agree gamma, dead 6K's are useless for use ;) it maybe a rare model but indeed not worth going for while it ain't got it's 4 Turbofans pumping ;).

if the card is flashed with the wrong Bios it should be possible to flash it back I agree there and if it can handle a Rev.A 3700 Bios it should do fine also.

Though It doesn't have Internal hookup, maybe it died with the Voodoo Volts attched to it, since it is known That Hiero has a Voodoo Volts for his card.

Could this have killed that card? Because it is know that Voodoo Volts aren't safe for use for many 6K's

@ Habbs

That is a Rev.A2 2600 look carefully at the photo ;) it has the classical VoodooVolts connector ;) you can see the metal cap on that connector in the shim of the camera shot look:

it's also rather short for a Rev.A 3700 ;) and also states:

Revision two this voodoo 5 6000 is 2600 A2, not a 3700A revision

This thread isn't for trashing someones auction and if that happens I'll step in.

On the subject of rareness *since you are pushing the issue* the 4500 boards are not rare at all and on any given week you can find them on Ebay for as little as $5-$10 a pop.

Well, matters of product value are definitely in the eye of the beholder. Two weeks ago my friend in Moscow sold his bare V5-5500 PCI MAC (flashed to PC) for $300 + FX5800 card. Yep, three hundred bucks + $80 worth videocard for unboxed V5-55 PCI! More to say, I'm glad that you have possibility to sell your card for over 60 bucks which is definitely a profitable deal for you. So you have my congratulations!
But there are also with no doubt some objective level of product value (rarity, in our case) based on statistics and other real-life factors. If you check the collectors list, V4-4500 PCI (unboxed) is presented in most collections. Of coure, not so popular as Diamond Monster 3D/3D 2, V3-3000 or V5-5500 AGP, and quite valuable (in comparation with V1/2/3 cards and even AGP versions of V4/5) but definitely usual item. In Russia they are still in stock for $20 and there are hundreds of cards available, for example.

the Voodoo4 4500 PCI was made by the hundreds of thousands I think but not by the millions, 3dfx was rather ate with the 4500 PCI, but it in fact a very common card.

I am constantly on ebay scouring for 3dfx cards, i bought a voodoo 2 with an SLI no vga, for $10.50 thats the cheapest voodoo based card ive seen in recent times. voodoo 3s generally go from $15 upwards and ive not seen a voodoo 4 under $26 for a long time. This is ebay.com.au mind you, a lot of ebayers dont post to australia and if they do youre paying a premium for p&h. I would love for a voodoo 4 to appear for $5-$10 my collection is limited so it would be a godsend.

Voodoo I and II go for as little as $1-$5USD here in the states, $5 for Voodoo 3 is common (hell you would be hard pressed to get $10 for a 3500) 5500 AGP are common for under $20-$25

Here is a new boxed 5500 AGP for $8.

Hey thats awesome however you'll notice they only shipped to united states, you'd be hard pressed to get something like that here. Voodoo 5s and 4s are a rarity here and the last one i saw in aus went for a staggering $104 AU.  I can only hope to find some old card languishing at a yard sale or second hand market. I will keep my eye open on ebay.com though, maybe someone will ship worldwide...

I'm just jealous that you were able to sell it for that much, while I've been listing my card in forums for weeks and nobody was interested (3dfx forums). Then on eBay and it was sold for much less.
It's not an opinion, if this card isn't rare, it isn't. I see old easy-to-find video games go for crazy prices everyday, while you can find them for less than half if waiting for the right moment. That's it, my opinions as a not-so-3dfx-newbie-anymore come from hours and hours of reading stuff about 3dfx on sites and forums, where people with great 3dfx knowledge influence what I say.

While that may appear unrelated to 3dfx. Many here, myself included, feel that this is one of the best motherboards to use when building a Voodoo5 6000 machine. Obi-Wan is building such a machine. I share in his excitement as I too recently build a V6K machine.

Yes, as Gamma pointed out that is one of the best motherboards that supports a V6K.

A post about an slot A CPU is slightly too generic.

Get the point?

Well, in that case you should've told us that before.
When you say 'I've raised the price' the winner of that item is not pleased about that. I think you could imagine it if someone told the same about an item you just won  ::)

Not before you wanted to buy the card but in the post you've posted at 9:02pm this day  ;)
At least you could've 'brought' your message in a different way. Talking about 'I've made it more expensive' is not kind of friendly to the winner of that item.

norries 'bout that 5K thingy, don't feel angry about it remember that Anger leads to the Dark Side, must let go and move on, you will get your chance.

The advantage is @ least I won't be go'n for pieces of PCB anymore, I've been there my friends, so all the good stuff I will keep that to you's ;)

If there is something you look for just PM me I will be wishifull to help out by scouting it up :)

Title: Re: 3dfx Related eBay Auctions (10/05 edition)
Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 11.12.05 at 04:58:46
yes exactly the Velocity 100 AGP, Velocity 200 AGP, Voodoo5 6000 AGP + Voodoo Volts, Voodoo5 5500 AGP, Voodoo5 5500 PCI, Voodoo3 2000 AGP.

Just those 6 cards the Velocity 100, 200 and V6K for display and the 5500 AGP, PCI & V3 2K AGP for dayly use.

After the 6K no more cards, they just pile up and I don't know what to do with them I have other priorities on my mind now, like my new home, Keyboard lessons, so I will be able to perform in some private bands and so on ;)

But norries I will keep up with the 3dfx life in the forums though and If help is needed I'm willing to help out a hand anytime, it's just that I wan't to do different things than just collecting pieces of PCB, there are more important things ot there for me to accomplish.

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

The cards I keep here will form a Memorial to 3dfx on great things 3dfx created as a remembrance to them :)

1) I live in the US and quote & pay in US dollars.

2) I have ways of making items get shipped, most of the time a simple e-mail to the seller works.

Could you explain the misleading part? If I were to buy it it would cost me $41 US dollars.

Most of the transactions on Ebay is in US currency or Euros, you shouild bear this in mind before you post.
