Post by osckhar on 07.12.04 at 18:31:02
Hi,

I would like to know if somebody know if really 3Dfx manufactured any V3 4000 AGP4x? Any PIC?

The little thing to the left is claimed to be the v4 4000. Thats all I know about it.

I heard it mentioned by someone in the 3dfx marketing, as far as I can tell it was just a statement to take heat off 3dfx for not making a AGPx4/32 bit color part.

By the time the press figured it was all B.S. VSA-100 would have been on the market and 3dfx could have claimed it was un-needed.

I'd be very happy to be proven wrong on this one though.

Sorry oschar I thought you meant v4 4000 instead of v3 4000. V3 4000 was just a myth. I will ask but I think it does not exist. For the v4 4000, If there is one...this is the one  ;)

I dont know the owner either, I'm sorry

Ahh, yes, the heavily discussed Voodoo3 4000 was one of our main interests and boy did we get some answers. Basically now, the Voodoo3 4000 is just a made up name that has been floating around (fishy stuff, if you know what I mean). The "Voodoo3 4000" is just basically somebody's description of the Voodoo3 3000 with an AGP 4X implementation. There will be a product supporting AGP 4X, but whether it will be named Voodoo3 4000 or not has still not been discussed. There might be a product named Voodoo3 4000, but if so, there might be more to it than just the AGP 4X interface.

I asked, the voodoo 4 4000 might actually exist.  The card to the left is a Daytona card and it might have been called voodoo 4 4000.  Nothing more is know about this little card.

Well it might be a Daytona card, it is missing alot of parts though, so I think you're messed up with the Voodoo4-2 4200 PCI+DVI 32MB DDR and Voodoo4-2 4800 AGP + TV-Out 32MB DDR.

3dfx Voodoo4 4000 AGP 16MB SDR:

3dfx Voodoo4-2 4200 PCI + DVI 32MB DDR:

3dfx Voodoo4-2 4800 AGP + TV-Out 32MB DDR:

And again you might be right, though the differences are quite visable.

If the person I asked says it Daytona, I believe him  ;)

A V3 redesigned for 32 bit color and AGP x 4 would be a massive undertaking and a duplication of work- I don't see 3dfx undertaking such a pointless project when VSA-100 was just around the corner.

It would have been a huge waste of resources and time, both of which 3dfx did not have in 1999.

I found out who the previous owner was : Logicalmadness
If you want to know simply ask him, maybe he is willing to give you the answers your looking for.

Ironically I found this info accidentally on the FalconFly forum. This is an old post of Patience:

CONGRATULATIONS and i'm sincere

i own "only" a Q3d X24, a beautiful card

hum, the seller is Logicalmadness, this guy has probably serious financial problems, he sold in march his 3DFX collection voodoo 4/5 & 6000  :
voodoo 4 4000 AGP 16mb SDRAM (Non-functional)
voodoo 4 4500 PCI 32mb SDRAM (functional)
voodoo 5 5000 PCI 32mb SGRAM (2D ok, 3D locks up randomly )
voodoo 5 5500 AGP 64mb SDRAM (functional)
and a voodoo 5 6000 AGP 128mb SDRAM (non-functional because of a few bumped resistors)

why should we live in such secracy, is it such dangerous info, i don't think so, but it's kinda exagerating to my opinion, really.  >:(

But it seems that the Voodoo4 4000 isn't functional, hmm that would be a shame, mabe more of them were built and maybe not. :-/

So again, i would not give this info and if i was the winner, i would not appreciate that.
Understood ?  :P

oh well that's your opinion not mine :) everyone has thier own feelings about these things and I am sorry that I upset you, that wasn't my idea.  :-[ At least I do have the rights to say what I think about it .

It sounded abit awkward that's all, so I replied in a way how I thought about it. and again I am very sorry that I upset you in any way, because that was not my intention  :'( .

Anyway I was do'n a little research on that Voodoo3 4000 mystery,I wanted answers on it, I wanted to know if it was real or not So I  found more info on the Voodoo3 4000 everyone, well they are more like speculations on what it realy was gonna be ;) :

here the link where I got it from:
http://www.guru3d.com/voodoo3.htm

Containing this interesting info:

" Uhm, I heard somebody mention Voodoo3 4000 "

Ahh, yes, the heavily discussed Voodoo3 4000 was one of our main interests and boy did we get some answers. Basically now, the Voodoo3 4000 is just a made up name that has been floating around (fishy stuff, if you know what I mean). There might be a product named Voodoo3 4000, but if so, there might be more to it than just the AGP 4X interface.

" When will 3Dfx offer AGP 4X? "

A. We’ve announced that a 4X member of the Voodoo3 family will be available to our OEM partners in time to intercept the debut of AGP 4X in the market.

" When will the AGP 4X board be available? "

A. The AGP 4X member of the Voodoo3 family is timed to ship with the high-volume ramp of the first 4X AGP chipsets.

Anyway, this was from a very old preview of the Voodoo3 series, it was Updated at 02/23/99  heeh a long time ago, when 3dfx was still in it's glory.

and here at Fireing squad a nice preview about V3 4K:

http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/v34000/default.asp

hehe at least the idea of the Voodoo3 4000 was cool:

Beyond '32/32/32'

According to a tip, the "Voodoo3 4000" will deliver final 32-bit color rendering , a 32-bit Z-buffer, and 32 or 64MB of RAM. We've also heard that this part will be able to run dual in 3dfx's famous SLI, but the AGP/PCI matter lends doubt to this conjecture.

and on this page heaps of V3 4K info!:
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/v34000/page3.asp

So my conclusion is that the Voodoo4 4500 AGP is the card we are looking at, why, well here are mu suggestions:

1. it has 32MB of ram
2. it runs at V3 3K speeds
3. it has 32Bit color
4. it has a  32-bit Z-buffer or was that 24Bit I'm not sure  here.
5. It supports SLi,  well the chip does anyway.
