Different Radeon Cards
12.10.05 at 03:23:06
Well with the new cards coming out (X1XXX Series), I'm wondering if anyone knows of any websites that may have put the other cards together. I'm in the market for a new card (well kind of, waiting for another check or two but I'm not spending 500 on a new card). I was hoping to spend around 200 but for two hundred, what Radeon is the best to get? I'm running AGP still so choices are still limited. The X700 256 meg Pro, which ATI just came out with the AGP version, is 180. I'm currently using a 9600 256 meg Pro card. What I would like to find out is how much better the X700 is or if the X1600 or even the X1300 is that much better then the X700 for about the same? Is the X800 256 meg Regular version much better then the Pro version of the X700 or even the 9800 Pro cards and how do all these cards compare to the 9600 Pro I currently have? How much better are they really? I was hoping that some site out there had done these comparisons. I mean even ATI's little compare list, just give hardware tech compares, not actual benchmarks (I realize benchmarks are just that, benchmarks but at least I was hoping for a visual comparison). Can anyone point me to a site that maybe has some of these listed. I tried looking through google, but I don't know if I'm just not typing in the search words correct to get a good list of sites. Most had ATI vs. Nvidia, not the different ATI cards available.
Thanks to anyone that can help.
Oh, and Nvidia isn't a choice, so don't even go there.

Tom's Hardware has a great series of articles called 'VGA Charts'.
This one includes 9600, 9800 and X8-0 cards. No x700 though.
VGA Charts VII: AGP Summer 2005
But, here they've tested PCI Express cards with almost an identical system and the X700 is in here.
VGA Charts VI: PCI Express Summer 2005
They used the same benchmarks so it shouldn't be too hard to find out what you want to know.

Thanks a ton man, this is more or less what I was looking for. Looks like the X700 and the 9800 XT are showing just about the same performance in most cases so it's probably what i'll be getting in the next two weeks or so. Thanks again.

Although, might wait until further info and prices come out about the X1600 and X1300 series. Can't afford the high end stuff, but if ATI's mid range cards are better then last year's high end cards as far as price and performance goes, then why not you know?

the X1600 series has been delayed again because there is a fault in the R520 design which much be fixed to make RV530's for the X1600 series lol
here more info of this bizar thing:
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26980
"Back in the summer, when R520 had its nasty current leakage problem, the same chap who, incidentally, used to like and still likes AMD, confirmed that RV530 had the same problem. If you remember this bug prevented the card from working effectively at more than 500MHz. The Radeon X1600XT works at 600MHz but was indeed affected by that bug. As soon as ATI fixed the bug for R520, it applied the same technique and fixed RV530 all the troubles were gone."
So again another delay , not to shabby for Ati huh, let's hope that this rumor isn't based for the Real thing.
.. oh deary diar

In that case, you might want to wait untill 2010 when ATI's latest generation of videocards hit the market.
Don't wait for what might come in a couple of months!
Only look at the stuff that's available now and within, at most, 2 months.

yeps and nVidia is still the best with thier GeForce 7800GTX why :? well they been available for quite some time, Ati now still has to clean up the mess with thier midrange card the X1600 series , and the silly thing is it has the same flaws as thier High end X1800 series , well there you are History repeats it's self sad but true
It's not that I'm on nVidia's side , these are sad to say the real facts.
So come Ati Get In The Game ASAP, because your customers have waited too long allready

Thanks guys, and your right Nitro, it's why I was looking at the X700 series for about 170. Just figured if the X1600 is out in a month or so and for roughly the same amount of money, might look at that though.

it's gonna be December a Januari when the X1600 will be out, I would go for an Ati X800 GT instead, they have 8 Pipes and 6 Vertex shader units and they are a bang for the buck also.
they have 256Bit GDDR3 the X700 Pro lacks 128 Bit GDDR3 and the price range between the two is about the same
so My advice is go for the X800GT instead

not the GTO just the X800GT
look:

Specs:
So the the conclusion does reveals some great things afterall:
" Conclusion
X800GT is ATi's first mainstream PCI-E VPU that offers a good performance/price ratio since the R9800 and R9600 days. The X600 and X700 were bug-ridden and slower than its AGP counterparts. The X800GT has a similar speed as an overclocked 6600GT PCI-E (Leadtek 6600GT Extreme Version), except in Doom3 based games. If you are a die-hard Doom3 fan, then forget about the X800GT, as it is significantly slower than Nvidia's 6600GT GPU.
All in all, we find PowerColor X800GT 256MB an excellent card, offering a good performance for its price, dual DVI-I connector and comes with a whopping 256MB GDDR3 onboard. "
The Geforce 6600 GT is slightly faster in some apps and in others the Radeon X800GT. They are both from the same price range so there is even some choice also 8)
