So, did you buy 2 pieces of memory (2 gb each) and soldered some pins and now you have 2 pieces of 4 gb each ? No ? I thought so...

I think he bought them that way and if I remember correctly I saw RAM modules with 'double' chips as well.
I'm not sure if this will work with the Voodoo's ... no idea. I can imagine that the RAM modules (EDO, SDR, SG), the RAM controller and the PCB should be able to handle this kind of situation and I doubt that 3dfx cards are designed that way :). |

Sandwich packaging is an old technique used by the RAM manufacturers to offer maximum-capacity RAM for many years now.
These were made for Servers (ECC Module), where the additional capacity per Module is more important and the additional ICs on the Module take sufficiently care of the signal load. |

I know this tehnic from komponent.
In one of his first mod, he try to use this tehnic to double the memory capacity on a voodoo5. Tehnic is not an easy one, and requires good soldering skills. You can ask Komponent for more details. |
