I would also expect Glide to be better for these two games! My friend had both of these games at the same time I did, back in college! We had exactly the same machines except he was running the games in Direct3D using a GeForce GTS, and I was using my all Creative Banshee/2x Voodoo2 set-up, using the Glide API.

For some reason, mine stonked on his, and he experienced framerate slowdown, especially on Deus Ex. Mine just ran and ran, really speedy too @ 1024x768. In the end we put it down to a configuration issue on his machine, but I'd like to think it was the better API won!  Wink Ah, back in the day!

F**K Micro$oft and Direct-X! Angry

If we could have more GLiDE games the world would be a better place! Wink

Ahh...imagine UT2004 in GLiDE...shame it's only a pipe-dream! Roll Eyes

You are right patience.

I've used direct3D only to be able to use the printscreen key and get the screenshot copied on the clipboard, on glide that doesnt work, at least it didn't the last time i tried with deus ex.

DeusEx gives better performance under glide than with Direct3d with the same settings. It uses the Unreal engine as you probably know, I'm not able to set 32-bit color mode in-game under glide, although you can force it.

Although I have a complain that goes for glide:

For some reason with most games I get more responsive input (lower mouse latency) when i use Direct3D than with glide, dunno why, ive set the pending buffers tweak for both api's to 0.

This is only a suggestion (or dream really Wink ) but:

If company's started to design games using the Glide API again, and more Glide wrappers were made available to use the API that the games were designed upon, who would the infringement rights be affecting? Seeing as 3dfx is no more, could companys get away with it, without asking for permission to use it (heck, even if ATI wanted to work towards using it in there cards).

Or would it have to go back to nVIDIA? But do they own the rights for the API?  ???

Try HyperSnap-DX 5 @ http://www.hyperionics.com
It is a screen capture piece of software that captures all sorts of different visual format (DirectX, DVD, OpenGL, and 3DFX GLIDE! Grin).

@ janskjaer,

Glide was all but dead and on it's way out when Nvidia acquired 3dfx, Microsoft's Direct X has all but won the 3d api wars, if not for John Carmack's decision's to use Open gl in his game engines, Open gl would be dead/irrelevant also.

If 3dfx had made better business decisions back when they were with out a doubt the leaders in the graphics card industry, history may have  been different, but unfortunately they made some really bad decisions that  lead to their demise.

We are left with only the older glide games now, their will never be an other glide game developed "ever".

Glide is not Nvidia's property, 3dfx released the source code publicly I believe about a year or two before they went under.

I believe the last glide game to be released was Clusterball in early 2002.

It's a cryin' shame folks, but @voodoo5500 is correct! Cry

GLiDE games are consigned to stuff that's already out there (or plugins for emulators). Tongue

Other than that, we can only hope for some home dev. stuff. Roll Eyes

@grunw,

Just my opinion, but if you have a descent processor in your system these games would probably look visually better using 1024x768 2X FSAA. Except for a few fps games in my collection, this is my favourite 5500 game set-up  Wink

Glide games 1024x768 4X FSAA  Grin

I prefer to run all the games at minimum resolution, I like the extra frame-rate even when we talk of 5-10 FPS only
