Title: V6K Project & Photoshop suggestions Post by gdonovan on 02.08.05 at 13:22:58
Here is a long term project I have been working on (long term as in I have had the parts but not the time to assemble)
http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/q3d_v6k.htm I have to update a few pictures since I have swapped out the NIC I was using for the correct Linksys NIC, installed the USB header in the back and cleaned up the wiring and cables further. One of the other refinements is going to be a switch in one of the unused switch locations for the front fans as they are noisy SOB's and I see no reason for them to run while the machine is idle. I have been looking for the Quantum3D "hexegon hole" backplates and have not found them yet, has anyone seen them for sale anywhere? Checking with the case supplier for Q3D turned up a blank. For now I'm going to drill some flat blank backplates with the same criss-cross pattern and live with round holes till I find the "right" ones. Getting closer to doing benchmarks now that the system is setup! Photoshop question- I was toying around with the idea of a custom V6K decal for the front, below you can see some ideas. The impact font looks best IMHO, but I have a limited number of fonts to play with. You can see where I Photoshoped the Impact font version onto the case, I think the orange font stands out to much and white would be better. Any suggestions? Currently the case has the AA decal on it and I have to admit it looks rather fine but would like to have something done that reflects there is a V6K lurking inside. |

well Gary I must say that if you use a western style of writing for the Voodoo5 6000 AGP 128MB name and include the most important slogan ever:
[glb]3dfx PC accelerators. So powerful, it's kind of redicilous[/glb] ;) May The Force be With You Master Jedi. |

a bit wiork from me:
- face now goes smarter into black - changed color of face near the quantum green - 6k emblem on face with relief - different font for voodoo 5 6000 www.outofrange.ch/temp/v6k_corsiva_font.jpg www.outofrange.ch/temp/v6k_corsiva_font2.jpg |

@paulpsomiadis: That was my impression too, the orange seems to clash though. @OutOfRange: Nice work! I streched out the text a bit and set it on the case like so- What do you think? BTW to everyone- I have a friend of mine turning out a few decals as a favor, if you want some let me know. So far he has done the Mercury and AA decals and the Heavy Metal decal at the top, I'm expecting a small Q3D decal too. |

hey gary i checked my stock and nothing flat, seems these case guys thought a rounded middle was the way to go. if i find anything i'll let you know, i have a guy who is helping me on a 3dfx case mod who does metal work, i'll ask him too.

well, it would be better if original v5 6k box art picture could be found somewhere (this one you used i made from v5 5k box, and there are some minor mistakes visible). I don't know kow big that box is in real life, maybe printed out version is just fine.
Speaking of fonts, check out Compacta Bold BT. This is the font i use for 3dfx related wallpaper which i'll release soon (inspired by original 3dfx poster many haven't seen at all). This font was the closest match i could find. |

check out this one: http://3dfx.rule.lv/tmp/v5-6000_tag.gif
It's original tag ripped from 3dfx pdf's. If you clook closer to box obi posted, you can easily see that it's the same tag. Personally i prefer original art as much as possible (that's one of reasons why my 3dfx related wallpapers lack any visual signature and have only mark in exif header). |

omg that looks great R21vo ;)
maybe you could add it to the V56K wallpaper? or isn't that a possibillity? The idea it's self might look great on Gary's system also the V56K boxart with that logo, very cool combo, that big nice green / yellow 5 looks nice also. |
Title: Re: V6K Project & Photoshop suggestions Post by OutOfRange on 03.08.05 at 23:03:39
new one for you gary :)
- now using the "original" text from the box - modified color of text (same color as quantum below) - modified text "6K" with two different fonts which i think they match the new text - remove the informations and the TM symbol - modified the "5" to match with the other colors |

I would like to have a wallpaper of this one :) Only remove the "Gray Border". Black only without the "6 K' overlay and cut off the bottom to remove the part number & copyright Q3D stuff and below. Excellent work ;D What do you guys think? Nice wallpaper? |

Someone asked me for Unreal flyby timedemo 1 benchmarks, here they are:
Timedemo 1 (flyby) with V5-6000 @ 166 mhz everything at defaults, sound on. 187 fps 1024 x 768 216 fps 800 x 600 242 fps 640 x 480 With 4x AA enabled 57 fps 1024 x 768 83 fps 800 x 600 117 fps 640 x 480 BTW- I did manage to lay hands on the correct backplates from Quantum3D and updated the pictures on the page when they came in. |

wauw, that fast even with FSAA x4 modes, how would it's speed be with FSAA x8? about half speed of the FSAA x4 modes?
The image quallity @ FSAA x8 must look very neat and the edges of the objects must look very seamless :) |
