Title: 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 PCI (Lego)
Post by LuxKiller65 on 27.01.05 at 17:53:45
Here is my Lego Voodoo4 4500 PCI!

Yes, I know it's ugly but it's even rarer than the rarest 3dfx prototype!

It took me quite some time to build and you can all be sure it's the first and the last time I'm doing something like that!

So, let's see some pictures of this top-secret Voodoo4, made especially by Lego itself for the game Lego Racer:

Here we can see the whole card. Notice how big Lego made the VGA socket, surely because the planned to make a hugely huge VGA cable, used to improve image quality (nevertheless, a normal VGA cable works fine). For the rest, the card is just like a normal Voodoo4, with a PCI connector in massive and genuine gold (look how bright it is!).

Close-up of the VGA output. I wonder what type of cable they had in mind!

Close-up of the fan. It only has four little blades but really keeps the chip cool. It's a nice little fan (platinum ball-bearing).

[Notice that the fan actually rotates! I made it so it can move.]

Well, that's all folks!

;D

Post your comments!

The problem is, I don't have black plates, just green and grey ones. Otherwise I would have made a Quantum, don't you worry I got tons of pieces of all kind of colors!

OMFG! This is really Wacko hahaha COOL dude very cool and Original, if there's no 3dfx to make our cards, why not build them your selves! Good and bright thinking !!!

okay let's compare!

[glb]3dfx Interactive Voodoo4 4500 PCI 32MB Rev.A 3700 PC Edition:[/glb]

It does look good I must say, it even shows the 5 PCI bridge chips! But the VGA connector is some what big and you missed some chips also, compared to the original, but the idea is visible.

Okay Your next mission build your own V56K , it will save you cash also ;) oklay ofcourse a real one would be nice also :)

A V56K?!

:o

Well, as a first experiment, it was kind of not-so-succesful, since many pieces I thought I could use showed up as being useless, but I'll see what I can do.

But I need some big and high-resolution pictures of a V56K then...

Might do the work, but I'd rather use one a non-beta card (this looks like one).

Perfect! It'll do the work perfectly!

Actually the V4 looks much more complicate to create. This one, apart from the four fans I'll have to make, is much more straightforward.

Expect it to be "ready" soon!

Hehehe very nice  ;)

I was looking forward to this one considdering this is my favorite.  You even made the Internal Hookup, very nice detail. Althoug I'm still missing the little piece next to the AGP connector (to secure the card to the mainboard) And while you're on it...you could try to copy the voodoo volts aswell.

hahaha coool very cool!!!!!

It's totally Identical very nice but indeed it misses the little hitch behind the AGP x2 connector, good words Omega_Supreme ;)

Yes, that's because I don't have any green pieces (it's the "rarest" color for little pieces, as far as I know). I could make it yellow, but it sure would look strange.

What are the Voodoo volts you're talking about, by the way?

Title: Re: 3dfx Voodoo4 4500 PCI (Lego)
Post by omega_supreme on 01.02.05 at 13:00:24

left: Voodoo Volts revision 1

rigt: Voodoo Volts revision 2

Because the v5-6000 exeeded the maximum amount of power the AGP slot can provide 3dfx designed an external adapter for it. They called it "Voodoo Volts", very beautyfull name if you ask me ;)

Now there are two revisions from the adapter, the one that has was designed for the old style powerconnector (+12 -12) and the one for the newer connector (+12 GND) Considdering the fact that you choose to build a final revision (in this case a 3700) the appropriate Voodoo Volts would be the newer revision.

However the first revision is better for the looks and a bigger challenge for you. You could also build a new powerconnector with grey blocks so that you would convert the 6000 in a 2600 build. I could go on for hours but I think you have the information you need now  ::)

Well, the power connector shouldn't be much of a problem, but the cable'll be much shorter, since I don't have a long cable. I'll try.

Looks like I gave up some time ago.

:-[

Yes I had blood all around my fingers and the whole room was covered with Lego pieces! It tool me a week to clean and [forgot the word in English] put every single piece where it belonged.

:P

And, unlike the Doctor (yes! the one with the advanced kernel!) said, making 3dfx cards out of Lego is not childish!

>:(

Well don't misunderstand me! I'm not giving up because of the incredibly more advanced Linux Kernel magician. Just said so because he mentioned that in one of his posts.

:P
