Voodoo 5 and AGP port
25.08.03 at 00:51:20
I'm looking to buy a Voodoo 5 5500 to be able to get max performance out of some older flight sims. However, in just trolling arround the net I read that some newer motherboards may not run the V5500 due to the wrong AGP voltage. My board only supports 1.5 volt AGP cards, but I can't s seem to find out what the voltage for a V5500 is.
Any help would be apprecated. Is there a location where a V5500 spec sheet might be found?

Just buy a V5-5500 PCI and you will be fine...

You can't use V5500 AGP on that motherboard. The PCI version will work fine. For specs of Voodoo5:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
3dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP
Product Specifications
64 MB of Graphics Memory 667-733 Megapixels Per Second Fill Rate Real-time Full-Scene HW Anti-Aliasing T-Buffer™ Digital Cinematic Effect: Motion blur T-Buffer Digital Cinematic Effect: Depth of Field Blur T-Buffer Digital Cinematic Effect: Soft Shadows T-Buffer Digital Cinematic Effect: Soft Reflections
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The PCI V5500 is a little slower than the AGP, but has all the other specifications.

some chipsets supporting this card : SIS 645, 645DX, 745, KT266/A, KT333 (except the version CF)
What is this version CF, I keep hearing about???
Can someone explain the details!

This is a version "light" of the KT400.
What does this "lite" version entail?
Would I be right in thinking that, it will be exactly the same as the KT400, but have a KT333 chipset?
Which would mean a KT333 chipset motherboard with an
AGP 4x/(possibly 8x also)
AGP Slot?

here's a product comparison:
http://www.via.com.tw/en/apollo/kt400.jsp
major point is the doubled v-link speed, so maybe the kt400 lite version has a down-clocked v-link to 266mb/s between the VT8377 & the newer VT8235
second point could be the cheaper ethernat controller of the kt400 (compared to the 3com controller mostly used with the kt333)
and agp...dunno

yes, the KT400 only supportss AGP 4x/8x, from the link you gave Micha. Therfore, my theory is correct!
