Title: HALO problems Post by Combatman on 06.02.06 at 05:04:20
I have recently purchased a used voodoo 5500 card and downloaded various drivers in order to try to play halo. I found out how to play it on this card here http://www.3dfxzone.it/enboard/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1092&SearchTerms=Halo
The problem is the game tends to lockup after about 10 minutes regaurdless or faster if I ride in any vehicles. I am currently using the x3dfx driver version 1.07 beta and the 3dfx tools from a 3dhq driver. My system specs are 200 watt power supply Old DELL XPS r 450 upgraded to a 1ghz celeron processor an old soundblaster soundcard Voodoo 5 5500 and Windows Mellnium Edition Only locks up in halo Is there any possible way to keep the game from locking up????? |

The answer was already posted here
(although in the Thread you mentioned, it apparently works with the Raziel Evolution 0.9 Driver) |

I read in another thread in this forum that you can mix and match driver components. Would it be possible to make the sfft driver's core components work on windows 9x?

I do not plan on upgrading to xp and all of my ide cables are full with hardrives cd rom zip drive etc..so dual boot is out of the question. Still does not work
After a painfull upgrade to xp and driver upgrades to sfft 34 alpha halo refuses to play. It has a little box that says your driver is known to have serious issues with the game. |

I have played the demo under xp with voodoo4 pci (SFFT A29,the first release that runs halo fine) and it was dead stable.

The full version refuses to play.

What setup did you have???what drivers etc...
Apparently the demo version has a different build setup or something. |

Tried it a few minutes ago with the full version of Halo and it works flawlessly ( Alpha 34, Voodoo4 PCI ).

It finally decided to work. I have a new question, since I have been using this voodoo5 card the ability/ compatability with games depended on the driver. Raziels evoulution driver worked for most games and a game called tumblebugs but not with halo. Now with the SFFT driver and windows xp this game has graphic consequences, literally. You can download the demo of this game from zone.com and see how circles become squares. Is this a driver issue? It has an option to enable opengl or D3d. Would changing this to open gl and downloading mesa fx make a difference???
*sheesh, I should of just bought a geforce 2 card |

make sure your D3D driver core (3dfxvs.dll,rightclick&properties/version/product version) is 29 or newer.square lens flares are a typical issue of older SFFT drivers (28 or older).see screenshots here.

not just flares the whole circle becomes a square with funky colors. I have sfft version 34. Anyways heres the link for the game. http://zone.msn.com/en/root/deluxe.htm?code=110429257&RefId=8302
anyways it says it is version 5.0.2195.242 |

try SFFT A33.I dont have a V4/5 hooked up right now and I wont be able to test it right now,as I'm doing 12hour shifts for the next few days..it worked fine with SFFT A29..

oh.missed that out somehow.I'll try to look at it at friday,I have day off.unless I spend the whole day sleeping or something.
try switching to opengl and see what opengl driver works best (3dfx ICD,mesafx,sage,wickedgl).. edit: SFFT A35 is online, make sure to update your driver.see if this doesnt help with D3D. |
Title: Re: HALO problems Post by Combatman on 22.02.06 at 22:58:08
I upgraded to sfft 35 and still no luck
|
Title: Re: HALO problems Post by ps47 on 26.02.06 at 13:17:41
ok,here is a fix for you:
-have SFFT A35 installed (dont forget to use that opengl package, after installing SFFT,extract it to your windows/system32 folder) -download the texture management utilities, extract the archive -run TmOff.exe, reboot -run tumblebugs in D3D mode, and it will work ok. |
