Title: DOOM 3 Time demo Scores
Post by THE_SAiNT on 20.08.04 at 07:55:18
This is my first post on your forum.  I have a V5 5500 AGP but I haven't used it for a loooong time  :'(

Anyway, My current rig : AMD Athlon XP 2000 - 512 MB RAM - Gainward GeForceFX 5700Ultra Golden Sample - WinXP

To run the time demo, press Ctrl+Alt+~ at the main menu.  Type : Timedemo demo1 and then ENTER

Try it three or so times and then you get a better idea of FPS you get on your current settings.

1st try » 27.5 FPS
2nd try » 30.8 FPS
3rd try » 30.8 FPS

Oh yes, it was running at 640x480, Medium Detail, 2xAA

Hey get in touch with ya' Voodoo self! ;)

Recycle some old PC parts and build a 3Dfx rig! ;D

As to the meaning of you post...hmm, I suppose a Timedemo comparison of different DOOM 3 compatible rigs of forum members 'would' be somewhat interesting...  ::)

I'll Timedemo L8R and post my results... ;)

The problem is the MotherBoard.  I can't find the right board for my card.  Once I have the board, the rest is easy.

I would love to see my card in action again.
*staring at the window feeling nostalgic*

Thx for the offer paulpsomiadis, but I live in South-Africa.  The exchange rate from R (Rand) to Pound is R6.70 for 1 Pound witch makes it way to expensive for me.  I'll rather check in our local Junk Mail newspaper for a board.  The problem is, I don't know wich boards to look for  ???  :-[
Luckily people here sell alot of second hand PC's for almost next to nothing, you just have to know what to look for  ;)
I want to build a PIII for my V5 - that sounds strange, doesn't it - but what board will be best?

Anyway, Doom3 is so dark I'm thinking of editing the .ini file to change the gamma so I can actually see what I'm doing.  Flashlight my a$$  :)

I guess any mobo with AGP 3.3V slot could do the job.

also you can find some more info here:

Fair enough mate! :P

As for the latter question, if you're looking for an MB for your V5500... :-/

It will have to be an older model mainboard that supports 3.3V on the AGP card slot... ;)

Check THIS thread: -

Hope that's O.K.! 8)

I also tweaked some things and now I am able to play the game on 800x600, even 1024x768 although it gets slow when there are more than 2 creatures in the screen.  I still need to run time demo again to see if there were any improvements on speed.

Is it possible to upload a file to this forum?  Maybe this file has been posted.  I'll check first.

Okay that's very good for a 4,5 year old card, then i suppose that Doom3's core is still based on de Q3A engine... Otherwise this couldn't be possible.

But I've heard that even Half Life2 is possible on our VSA-100 based cards!, it seems to be that the core of the Valve2 engine still runs on DirectX 7.0 how funny.

I thought I read that at 3dfxzone.it somewhere.

even on voodoo 3 it' s possible. If we can believe "Doom" that is. I havn't seen the game running on vsa-100 cards but hey if voodoo 3 is possible I assume v4/5 is possible too  ;)

@Obi-Wan_Kenobi,

You are correct about Half life 2, it seems as if this game can and will run on older cards (back to DirectX 6 or 7 I think).

Here's a link with some further info if your interested:

Did every company forget the Voodoo 4 and 5 cards when specifying requirements or what?

Quote:
DirectX 6: This is the extreme low end. DX6 cards running Half-Life 2 will look a lot like HL. Textures are only 128x128 or 256x256. Everything will look very nasty. TNT2, ATI Rage, S3 Savage, Voodoo3, Matrox G200, motherboard integrated graphics.

DirectX 7: A DX7 based card is what I consider the actual playable low end for Half-Life 2. You should get 3D sky, some volumetric effects, hardware T&L, 256x256 textures, decals, dynamic shadows, and medium resolution displacement maps. Geforce, GeForce2, Radeon 7000 series, nForce integrated graphics.

It's the same thing with The Sims 2. On the official page they mention geforce's and radeons but no voodoo's :-/
