It's simple, an example :

[ img ] http:// www.myserver.com/theimage.jpg [ / img ]

Just remove all the spaces I have used, in order so the YaBB Forum does not try to actually use this example, but writes the Code.

Once they are removed, you would only see the Image.

The Forum help also has a good and easy Explanation on how to use the YaBB Tags, which are simple abbrevations of HTML Code.

And finally, above the Smiley's you can click to use in your Postings, there are Symbols. Symbol Nr. 4 from the left will already give you the Tags, you just need to fill in the correct address where your Image is located ;)

Ah, I see...

That's no Problem. I guess that you do not have any Webspace to upload the Images to in the first place.

If you like, you can EMail them to me, so I can upload them to the Archive and present them here in your name :)

Ah memories!!!

I have just put a freaky Voodoo face as my desktop picture and every time I look at it I think of the great marketing 3dfx had. Oh, and it scares the SH!T out of my sister  ;D

But I spose it shows that marketing can only cover for a lack of new product releases for only so long.

I don't know what it was, but 3dfx just had something that made them special. I have not any special attatchment with any other computer component other than my Banshee card from 3dfx. Wonder why that is?

I want them back!!! Can't someone start the company up again?

Humm...  I didn't know the origin of my Voodoo3 3500 without tuner, but you have given me the solution  ;D .

Sorry for opening this old topic again! But... i have a little request. Does somebody have a high res picture of the voodoo volts adapter (not the ones from google etc.). I already have one from the new revision. But i would really like one from the old one. (The one with the orange 3dfx logo) Maybe Falconfly can make one for omega_supreme  :D
(i thought you had one)

Thank you.

OOOOOHHH  :o  Amazing what a beauty!

I have no words for it seriously. I'm getting pretty jealous now. But thanks a thousand times FalconFly, really nice shots. Are those 2 cards in the front business cards from 3dfx employees or something?

....I must somehow obtain such an powersupply, if you ever can also help me....i would apreciate it of course  ;)

Title: Re: Post your 3dfx Images ! (56k Warning!!)
Post by FalconFly on 02.08.04 at 21:13:21
Well, the Business Cards came with a Voodoo3 3500 Prototype I got quite a while ago (both indeed are from 3dfx people at that time).

But they kinda look neat, so I placed them on the last image as a piece of History :)

Well i have to say you're quite the collector...pfew besides a rampage and a flag what dont you have  ;)

Anyway i still have a question about this voodoo volts of yours. Did it came with this collection? (considdering you won it)

I know im quite irritating now but i am always like this when i want something really really bad. And maybe, maybe ...theres a really small chance you could help me get one someday??

maybe Falconfly has two since new collection  ;D

Title: Re: Post your 3dfx Images ! (56k Warning!!)
Post by FalconFly on 02.08.04 at 22:57:49
Well, the .jpg Images are 85% Progressive compressed, so they're certainly not 100% quality (and bare in mind they come from a quite cheap DigiCam that has its limits, too ;) )

But due to their generous size, resizing them somewhat down yields good quality with a good filter applied.

Anyway, the VoodooVolts came with the first big Collection that I and Patience went for on 09 Feb this year.

This, as well as the recent one are split between us two, but they way I see it, the VoodooVolts from this recent Collection will stay with the Voodoo5 6000 it belongs to.

Latter is already in Germany, but has not arrived at my home yet.

I've received dozens of requests for individual Items, and had to put them all down. After all, we are not tossing thousands of Dollars just to give away those rare Items again the next moment...

Good news however is, that at least I will never go for Items that I already own (except for getting a Retail variant of a Card I only have bulk), so your chances of battling me on Ebay shrinks everytime I aquire rare Items.
(by now, indeed not many Cards remain to be aquired)

PS.
At least I held the Flag in my hands, but I really didn't have the proper room for it anyway *g*

Once they're there, I might as well post them here...

Temporary Images from (almost) all Items from the recent Collection, that we use internally to prepare the Split :

Beware : that's a total of 52.5MB worth of unprocessed, raw Images so far, more coming soon. I didn't get lighting quite 100% on all of them, but well, they were originally intended for internal use only and for that they're good enough)

The Stands are originally for Knifes, but do a nice job to hold Cards :)

With the exception of the formentioned cards, the other look & feel undamaged indeed, thus I'm a lucky bastard ;)

Most Images however are found either already linked in the Forum, or can be accessed from the 3dfx Identification Section of the Archive :)

is there any way to fix this wrong ground texture horizont? by settings in q3config.cfg or by 3dfx's tools??

game: q3's engine " Star Trek Elite Force II"

also happens in quake3 (in some floors, not in all levels)

EDIT: i've a voodoo4 in winXP & winME (mesafx & original ICD, both OGL files and OS, has the same wrong effect)

I think this post needs to be in the game section. Dont let FalconFly see it  ;) .... But now for the texture, since it is the quake 3 engine it uses opengl. Dborca has made a nice piece of software for that called MesaFX.
Try to use that and it should work fine  ;D

Hey FalconFly. Nice stuff. I originally put together most of the collection that you bought on ebay. It's the same one that is on the French site. That pic is from when I sold it. A guy in Oklahoma bought it from me then later sold it on ebay. Do you have the 2x2 6000 card that was with it? As far as I know, only two of those exist. There were lots of prototypes as well as a 3500 200Mhz Falcon card...and of course the flag. I am also the guy with the 5000 AGP on ebay right now. Funny thing....the STB business card is MINE!  ;D

Title: Re: Post your 3dfx Images ! (56k Warning!!)
Post by FalconFly on 18.08.04 at 09:38:12
Hi and welcome to the Forum :)

Yep, I have that Display Card and the Business Cards ;D
Patience got the Flag.

Are you saying the Card was your personal one (STB employee) at that time?

Title: Re: Post your 3dfx Images ! (56k Warning!!)
Post by Voodude on 19.08.04 at 02:04:27
Yeah, I worked for the Specialized Technology Group (STG) of STB (mpeg decoders, multi-monitor cards, broadcast stuff, etc...) then with 3dfx I also did their driver install CD's and Microsoft WHQL Driver Certification. I thought I sent him one of my 3dfx cards too but I guess not. I can see my office on the third floor in that picture of the building. Gary (from the other card) is a guy I still run into on occasion. Before 3dfx went down, we (STG) spun off and formed our own company. ( www.enseo.com ). We still have some of the old 3dfx engineers and one of the hardware guys. Yeah, he even made our new 4 channel HD card layout similar to that of the old 6000. I've been with the same company more or less since '96 and I love it. They're a good bunch of folks to work for. Anyway, that's how I put the collection together. You can rest assured that almost everything came directly from 3dfx hardware guys giving them to me to take home and test. I bought a couple like the Colormaster Voodomania card on ebay though. I also gave tons of cards away to friends and family and that's where these last few cards are coming from. (That's why there were no 5000 cards in my collection!) Out of everything I had, I miss the Falcon card the most. I had to literally beg for the flag. The guy wanted to give me a new one in the box but I wanted the flag that flew in front of the building. As for the 2x2 card, you know they were totally non-functional. To my knowledge, we assembled two of them. One went to the photographer and the other was used to show off at trade shows. I was told that this one was returned from the photographer then tossed around in the IT lab for a year or so (where the stickers were torn off) before a friend from IT showed it to me, I begged some more, and got it. I had to remove the rest of the sticky gum from the stickers on the chips and straighten a few pins but what a prize! The power supply actually came from somewhere else but I felt like it belonged with the card. To my knowledge, the other 2x2 card has yet to be found. Sorry for the long story but hey...you asked.

I'm adding more 3dfx stuff to ebay now so if you're interested, check my othert auctions too. I've got a line on a possible 4500 new sealed in the box but I dont' know for sure yet. We'll see!

-Tony

hehe, always nice to get some good old background Infos :)

Most Cards just 'appear' on EBay or other channels, but unfortunately we get them with little or no "History" most of the time.

My ebay ID is "slick_willy_777". Here's a link to the 5000 auction. Check my other listings. I'm about to add some more 3dfx stuff. Nothing as fancy as the 5k though...just weeding through some leftovers.

wow Voodude, I see you're one of those who made 3dfx what it was (is?)!

background story was great! I'd love to hear some more! ;)

Do you still have some artworks/software stuff of 3dfx what isn't available on net? It would be great to release them to public  ;D

Voodude

As you are an ex 3dfx engineer, can you please answer some technical questions for us ?

The Voodoo5 6000 was presented with a PC played  Quake3   @ gorgous 2048x1536 resoultion !!!!

But nowaday  none of the Voodoo5 6000 owner can play Quake3 in that resulition. Have you had used a special pragammed  3dfx driver ? Or can you still remember what driver revision was that ?  If it was a special 3dfx driver, can you help by finding /releasing that driver thorugh your ex 3dfx engineer connections ?

::)

No NitroX, I never even seen one though it would be nice to have.

R21vo, I had a few unusual pics but a recent hard drive crash took most of them. I do have a DVD quality copy MPEG2 version of the 3 TV commercials. I lost my copy here in the hard drive crash but I have it backed up at work. It's about 250 megs I think. If someone has an FTP site I could post it to, I'd be happy to upload it for you in the next couple of days. It's the actual MPEG video that was used by 3dfx at trade shows. I posted it at x-3dfx.com not long ago so some of you may already have it.

sloomy, I was a was a Field Application Engineer which means that I installed and supported our products at customer sites. A software/hardware engineer I am not, sorry. As far as the Quake resolutions, I have no idea what was used.

I'll dig around and see if I can find some other pics and stuff.

Later,
-Tony

That would be great Voodude! I would love to get my hands on those 3 3dfx commercials. Hope you find some rare pic's for us 3dfx collectors. ;D

Hopfully FalconFly has the space so you can upload the commercials for us. It would only be a temperary download. ^_^ I can convert them to HQ Xvid. ;)

It would be very very very very great!!!! I guess Falconfy has enough resources for distributing those files?

Maybe you know and can tell us some background info about making 3dfx cards (who and how made the prototypes, what were main problems and how they were solved, etc, etc)?
Also maybe you know something more about making Rampage, Fear, Mojo ?

hehehe a 24" is rather huge man, I'm already glad with my EIZO T662-T 21".

Okay it may be 4 years old, but hey it does 1600x1200x32 @ 85 herz, which is enough, it's max reso is 1920 x 1200 x32 @ 60 herz. that's a 10:9 ratio I think , yet i may be mistakenn, anyway 21" is also big, my old monitor was a CTX VL500 15" LOL  ;D

well I recieved a strange ATi card today. okay it's not 3dfx but it has two cores, it date somewhere in the Riva TNT2 era. here it is:

ATi RAGE FURY MAXX 64MB

What I want to know is, is this the first dual chip Sli ever made, because it is older than the Voodoo5 5500 and 6000 cards. So I suppose that dual chip Sli come from ATi. funny though...

If anyone knows something please let me know, would be nice  ;) Anyway I got it for 47 Euro's that's included postal services. normally the card was 35 Euro's.

Friendly Regards,

Obi-Wan Kenobi.

as far as i know ATi used thier own technology for Rage Fury Maxx, but it had some problems which is why those were only ATi multichip cards (at least official).
Maybe Rage Fury Maxx was the first mainstream multichip card (more that 1 chip on one card), but I doubt it was the first ever, because we don't know what did happen then in 3dfx labs and what did quantum3d in it's labs..

FalconFly, do you have the necessary space to host these 3 videos in MPEG2 format?

Even if it's only temporarily hosted, just so I can get a hold of them. It would give others the chance to also.
We can then burn them onto CD and share them out locally to nearby 3dfx users!  ;D

Another Option would be to open a BitTorrent stream, and post the Link into the Forum.

That works extremely well, and has been proven very useful for large 3dfx Files in the past :)

I know what is bittorent, but streams last after some time and if someone would like to download that file later - he couldn't get ir, because stream would be dead (unless you keep it alive). anyways, first we need that file and then we share it.. ;)

Well yeah okay, you got point 'bout that. But What i meant is this must be the first stand alone Multi-chip 2D 3D AGP card around. I'm just try'n to find out what  technology it uses, though 3dfx' SLi comes close.

SLI on 3dfx = rendering every other line on the screen

SLI on ATI = rendering upper half and lower half of screen.

I searched a bit and found this:

Quote:
ATI's Maxx technology is slightly different from 3dfx's though; they use Alternate Frame Rendering (AFR).  Here's how they explain it on the Rage Fury Maxx FAQ:

ATI has developed a multiple chip parallel processing technique that works within MAXX implementation called Alternate Frame Rendering or AFR. In the AFR process, one chip renders even frames while the other chip renders odd frames. Each chip processes triangle setup for its own frame without waiting for the other chip making AFR the more efficient multiple chip processing technique.

Wondering how it compares to SLI?

   3Dfx's SLI's technique:
One chip draws out even lines of an image and the other chip draws out the odd lines of the image. This technique is inefficient because both chips process triangle set up on one frame.

Unlike SLI, AFR processes separate frames.

What is the difference of the  200 SB and  X-24 ?  The boards are really very similar isn't it ?

Title: Re: Post your 3dfx Images ! (56k Warning!!)
Post by FalconFly on 26.08.04 at 23:50:09
The SB200 has the 2 physical connectors on the left side of the Card, while the X24 does not have those (only the solderings are in place to take the connectors).

So their PCB is identical, the difference is just the 2 additional Connectors on the SB200.

As we say here in the states- SON OF A BIT@H!

The last "X-24" I purchased has the bank of pins at locations J23A and J23B and the two banks of plastic encased pins at locations J24 and J28. I noticed the plastic covered connector pins but just checked it off as a revision as the rest of the card is pure X-24.

So.... I had a SB200 and didn't even know it.

LOL!
