Voodoo 4 4200
03.02.05 at 18:22:39

Today my V4 4200 comes up  Cheesy

i dunno what's the meaning of the Letters written on the RAM Chips  ???

If i using the card single the system  hangs on startup, no Post screen is shown,BIOS Beeps indicates VGA problems  Sad if i use an additional AGP card, system will bootup on AGP card and detects an unknown PCI device, Windows also finds an PCI card but doesn't show a type or name this time the rest of system works normally Sad
if i reboot the system it hangs up and cannot been bootet (no post screen, no beep) till i reset the CMOS by the Battery Jumper....after that system will boot but some PCI devices (IDE controllers) doesn't work till i unmount the 4200  ???

This card is VERY picky about motherboards!

The only motherboard that mine will run on is an old P-200MMX TX intel board.

All the BX boards and a few others have nothing but problems from no boot up to conflict errors.

No, that was just a very minor mechanical damage, that caused an electrical anomaly.

After bending the affected piece into its correct position again, it started working (to the known, limited extend)

interesting thing... i'm going to look for this board or an other KT333 based one, hope this will take effect Smiley

i think the card isn't dead so i have to look for a compatible system

additional: i don't know if i should clean the RAM modules for a cleaner look or not, what do you mean  ???

After "some hours of thought", worked perfectly

All the BX boards here would not even BOOT, even with a newer bios which fixed some rendering issues. Brand of BX board made no difference and a few Pentium boards with different chipsets were tried as well.

Very much a "beta" card.

Just wondering why no-one has noticed, but on the back of the card it says Shocked: -

4600

Is this standard for a Voodoo 4 4200? ???

Never tried a cpu AMD ?

At the time I did not own a AMD PC platform and have a functioning Daytona with 32MB that works on everything.

After obtaining an AMD based platform retesting the 16MB Daytona did not occur to me and frankly isn't a high priority considering how much time I have already spent on the item.

It's a problematic piece that at least works on one of my platforms and a board that works on all platforms is available.

This moment i wonder why IBM take the cards for their servers  ??? what were the sence behind that ? it looks like the boards aren't really a final work and it seems that no driver is able to run the 3d part correctly  ???

Who knows if they actually did or not?

Even if they did and the platform worked fine there is a chance the server being a server didn't use 3d at all or even any color over 16.
