I am posting this here cause it is far offtopic.......

I am looking get a different video card, wether it is 3DFX or not doesn't matter really, but i do like them.  I currently have a voodoo3 2000 16 meg PCI card and I am lookign to upgrade to something around 64-128 meg of vid ram.  Is there any cards out ther available in PCI format, not AGP or PCI-E cause my puter is too old for that.  Can anyone give me any ideas?  I am asking cause a friend wanted to get me a used vid card for christmas but couldn't think of any to find.

@jandarsun8- Are you sure they are regular PCI?  They look like it to me but it is hard to be sure.  The ones in the german one exxe put up look like PCI-E even though it says PCI.  Somehow I can't see a old vid card being around 350 euros.......i dunno...

you will need to go for the older cards if you want win9x compatibility-ati x1000 and nv 8000 series have only xp drivers (and vista,yeah ::)).that probably means radeon9250,preferably the 128-bit version..

Also, I have a Intel i440lx mother board.  Does that affect what memory interface size can be on the vid card?  What and how does the memory interface size do or help with?  

yeah the 9250 is probably going to be your best bet for a PCI card. I've got one running in my daughters machine and it works ok for her. There are drivers for 98SE but they are older, you can look them up on ATI's site if that's what you end up getting. Cards should only be around 60$ US dollars. Anything above 100 and you can almost bet that it's PCI-e and not a regular PCI card.

No, motherboard should make a difference. Not quite sure what your talking about with the memory interface but if your talking about the amount of ram on the vid card itself, more is better.

What I mean is that some of the cards in the newegg link are 64 bit memory interface, some are 128 bit.  Does that affect how compatible it is with my older mother board?  

If doesn't affect compatibility, but it does mean significantly reduced Video performance (64bit).

This is due to a basically halfed Video RAM bandwidth, compared to the 128bit VRAM Models.

It'll easily make the difference between unplayable (64bit) and acceptable performance (128bit).

Therefor, stay clear of everything that has 64bit written to it, or nothing written at all (usually means 64bit, as it does not make for good advertising).

Can you even find the 8500 or 9100 in PCI any more though? I had a 8500 AGP but haven't seen anything other then the three listed above as PCI.

The 9000, 9200 and 9250 aren't "bad", they're just a tad slower than the original 4x AGP 275MHz Radeon 8500.

Considering that it's almost impossible to find them in PCI anyway, they're still an okay choice.

(needless to say, a Motherboard upgrade to allow at least for AGP Cards would certainly help)

The modern video cards on the weak platforms have a very low speed. Installing expensive graphics cards onto weak platforms doesn't help too much. The framerate in most games on such accelerators is very low, because the CPU's clock speed is not determining. I'd go maximum for a GeForce 2/4 on PCI on your configuration.

I have an ATI 9200 PCI 256MB card that I am planning to retire from my wife's P4 2400MHz machine.

I recently upgraded a friend to a Quad Core Intel and he gave me his P4 3.2GHz chip and motherboard Soyo Dragon. I planned to us my ATI 9800 AIW in her upgraded machine.

Well yeah I am interested but if it would run slowly on my old a@@ set up then I might think twice about it.  AS it happens.I am broke, perpetually so it seems lately.  The fried of mine who offered to buy a card for me for christmas was gonna drop about 40 odd bucks US to get one but it turned out to be PCI-E, so that shot down that idea.  

GeForce2/4?  They come in PCI?  WEll wait aminute.  Thwey must have....I know my brother has a GeForce I think in his PC.......but it is AGP 4X.  

As for a mother board upgrade....it doesn't seem likely.  This computer is a little long in the tooth to upgrade much.  I scrounged a used 3gig hd and some ram a while back.  I have a celeron 733 to swap with my celeron 533 at some point (I am loathe to do it though, I know squat about the procedure, especially with mine being a card mounted doohickey....).  Other than those minor upgrades, that is about it for me for now.
