Title: a question for you
Post by Rarok on 16.07.05 at 19:25:18
I have a Voodoo3 2000 and I thinking In overclocking him but I have some question.
Is best to update the BIOS or is best keep it?
Itīs only posible overclock it using software or I can make some changes in the hardware?
What is the fastest speed I can reach?
What are a good temperature for the card?

And a question for all these fans of the 3dfx cards, these cards with 3 fans or other extrange thinks these are cards made by 3dfx or are there mods mades by yours?

1. buy some good coolers
2. OC with normal software
3. you can use a v3 3000 bios...this brings you the 166mhz and sometimes 1 frame more...don't know why! but you have to reach 166mhz with your card in order to flash this bios!
4. you can do a vmod! but i cannot find the homepage with the guide! will search!

Just make sure you can successfully OC to 166 before you flash to the Voodoo3 3000 BIOS.

Personal, I would just use the Voodoo3 overclock utility ;)

and about vmod, I asked for it and I found the Virtual Machine On Demand and a extrange card that I dont know for what is http://www.kontron.com/products/pdproductdetail.cfm?keyProduct=30844
i also searched for voodoo mods and the only think that I found was about how to do voodoo dolls and other extrange thinks :P ???

but I found something about Sli what is it?

link

here is a guide for OC & v-mod (german) and a picture of the v-mod with some hints (english)

i dont undertand german but the english file i think its single, itīs only need to take care, but if I change the Voltage, can it damage the motherboard? my board has a AGP1x the voltage is the same if it is AGP2x or PCI because I donīt know many things about hardare I donīt know if I can do this change.
And what about the Sli? what means it?

with a vmod on your voodoo you can damage your voodoo! not your mainboard...

sli? it's a technology of 3dfx...or i do not understand your question ( www.google.com )

ok, is similar than the SMB of the microprocesor, but I think that my card canīt do it, I go to try to change the voltage of my card but first I going to put a cooler, and about the overclocking by software all the programas to do that are for windows, if I do that on windows when i use the linux the card returns to itīs old speed?

I tried to reach the 180Mhz and WORKED ;D the Jedi Knight Reached a perfect speed, but I prefered to shutdown the computer in a few moments because I dont have a good cooling, ok know I going to but the best cooling for it i after iīm going to change the voltage and overclock it

183 Mhz core/mem should be possible with ease, my V3 3K AGP from Power Color reached 200Mhz Core/Mem :) okay it has 5ns SDRAM hehe that helps alot I must say.

but the most V3 2K AGP's can do 183 a' 191 Mhz core/mem without probs.

another question. Do you think that a ZALMAN ZM80A-HP could be a good way to cooling the voodoo3 2000 and can I use it on it? or itīs best to use a fancooler?

Title: Re: a question for you

i guess it will work! this cooler fits on a v4 4500 too and no problems with the heat of the mighty vsa-100!

Title: Re: a question for you

and can how can I join it, because I only see somo images of the ZM80A-HP and it has a lot of holes to screw on it, but I donīt know if the holes will be in the same place in the card

To be honest, Rarok, it would be a waste of your time.  It would mean drilling your own holes into the card which is highly unrecommended!

Using a cooler such as this, will not get you the significant increase in performance as it would from a standard yet deeper heatsink with a fan attached on the end of it.

Try this as it should be more suitable than the current ZALMAN product you have been looking at.

http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/product.php?productid=18549

OR

Have a look at Vantec's general purpose fan cooler.  This will sit in the slot next to your graphics card, blowing cool air onto the front of it.

http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/vauvspfanca.html

A useful cooler than can be used to cool nearly any graphics card.  You don't have to worry about compatability.

No holes required!  :)

ok thanks and sorry for making too many questions, but I donīt know many about hardware and I canīt make any mistake because I donīt have money to buy another card :-[ I have a old computer but I canīt update it

Rarok,

Have a look at my previous post.

I have added another cooling product to the list.

You should not go wrong with the general fan cooler.  :)

If money is tight, why not just buy a small fan and attach it to the heatsink currently on your card?

Title: Re: a question for you
Post by Rarok on 23.07.05 at 23:00:40
because if I want to change the voltage and overclock the card from 133mhz to at least 180mhz I think I need a very good cooling

even a Blue orb well a modden blue orb would be fine :) when you have a blue orb get some good sand paper and rub it on the cooler's underbelly, and after that make it nice and smooth with softer sandpaper and then pollish it, and use it on you V3 2K, with Artic silver 3, norries there lad  8)

Be sure to let us know how you get on with the card so any more assistance can be offered is necessary. It would also be useful to hear of any problems you encounter.

@Obi-Wan_Kenobi
I think that Im not going to be a collector, perhaps if a knew how to make drivers or making my own cards with the pieces of others perhaps I would make collector

And about making the mod of the voodoo, I first need to make many changes in the PC, the box is little and it has not any cooling because of that I talked about good ways to cool the voodoo but I cant use a PCI to cooling because I don't have any PCI socket free,
Because of all that I think I prefer to wait to get a new PC before modding the voodoo
