Title: V5 5500 -- Hot Components? Post by Renner on 27.01.06 at 00:45:04
I'm currently working on a cooling mod for a V5 5500 PCI (Zalman NB-32J's on the VSA-100's and RHS-1 heatsinks on the RAM).
Do any of you folks running 5500's know if there are other components (mosfets, etc) that get pretty warm when these cards are working hard? I can't really test it myself until the other mods are done, and it would sure be nice to just finish it all in one go... Thanks in advance. |

Are you planning on doing any overclocking on the video card?

Not right away, but maybe in the future, after I've got a confirmed system built around it. Even if I don't, I like putting a heatsink on anything that gets more than about 15°C above ambient under load...
It might sound sort of foolish, but I have a fascination with heatsinks. I just figure that if there's ANY chance it might keep things running cooler and perhaps extend the lifetime of the unit, then hell, it's worth the effort. Plus, the result usually looks pretty cool. You should see the NF2 Ultra mobo it'll be going into. ;D |

For moddest overclocking, you'll be just fine with your setup. If your trying to beat TM30's 3dmarks world record, that's another story and another thread all together ;)
