Title: 3dfx Voodoo5 6000 First Aircooler Edition
Post by trevormacro on 20.02.13 at 11:21:14
Hello,

Start at the end of february 2013 on a common Voodoo5 6000.
This Aircooler is made of aluminium and copper with pipelines.

Price: 2300€ (including 900 euros for materials)

3dmodel in CAD:

Painting for 10 hours...

Engraving:

Materials:

nb. no problem for the final aircooler weight because the card will be in the same position as TEC card (in reverse).

Best Regards,

Trevormacro

looks like 20kg copper  ::)
but why 3 cooles on top and not one the side?
that's something i wonder on every new radeon and geforce

Direct rear exhaust would really be better, since the heatsink is pretty high.

Btw. I don't see any sense in using heatpipes combined with so many copper fins. Go for aluminum fins only and save some weight. The cooling results will be the same, 'cause the whole solution is pure overkill.

My opinion: Make a real 3dfx heatsink! Rebuild a version of the original Voodoo 5 6000 heatsink that was build for the Intel revision, just make it compatible for HiNT revisions.

Why pure overkill? the weight don't be on the agp connectors.
Look my first post at the end there is a nb. no problem for the final aircooler weight because the card will be in the same position as TEC card (in reverse).
Your opinion is good.
Perhaps in the futur I will do your idea.
Can you find for me a picture of V5k6 intel heatsink please?
is it like that? http://www.thedodgegarage.com/3dfx/prototypes/proto_v5_fans.jpg

Thanks

I prefer 3 coolers front and 3 coolers back.
You mean for exemple this cooler :

It's a good idea and another good design ;)

The "pure overkill" isn't meant for the weight, but for the cooling solution in general. You are adding a cooling solution which is already overkill for nowadays hotheads like the Geforce 590 and you want to add it to a card that is 13 years old and nowhere near the heat dissappation of the cards from nowadays.

"pure overkill"is not the term I would choose tho, I would use something like totally unnecessary, you would be taking up like 6 slots if you would put that in any machine.

But what do you hope to accomplish with this?? Another card abused for something that serves absolutely no purpose aside from adding more redicilious cooling to a card that doesn't need it.
This serves no purpose at all, you can't say...maybe it'll cool better....cause that won't be the case.

The only reason I can think of that serves any real, be it a stupid, purpose, would be to see how much added weight such a long pcb can take before braking.

@ultima:

I will not put my V5k6 in a machine.
I just want to have a good aircooler on one of my common V5k6 card.
The card can't break because put on desktop in reverse.

Hello,

I have tested the card and the max frequency reached is 205 MHz with fans RPM at low speed (by default).
