Title: ATI card burnt up?? Post by jandarsun8 on 06.05.06 at 21:29:23
Ok, I've got a Giga-Cube 9600 Pro 256 meg card. After watching a DVD the machine was running sluggish, I rebooted and after the reboot I'm getting a CLI.exe critical error. When ever the Catalyste (?) control center try's to be accessed I get the same error so I can't access the AA settings or any settings for that matter now. I have reinstalled the cat 6.4 drivers and that didn't work, so then I tried both the 6.3 and 6.2 drivers and that didn't work either. It passed both Direct Draw and Direct 3D test inside DX and it'll run Temple of Elemental Evil although I don't know how much of that game is actually 3d. I haven't tried any other games yet but I'm wondering if the card might not be shot or what could posiably be wrong with it. I have not put the card into a different machine yet to see if it gets the same thing but wanted to see what you guys though before doing so.
System specs are as follows Windows XP SP2 all updates DX 9c .NET 2.0 (1.1 required for ATI Cat Control Center) 1024 DDR 3200 ATI 9600 Pro 256 meg AMD 3200+ 2x 80 Gig WD Raid 0 config Epox EP-8kRA2+ motherboard |

That looks like a software problem to me. I don't think the card will burn up just like that.
A 'radical' solution would be a reïnstall of your Operating System. Otherwise, check for virusses and spyware. You could also try other older drivers. Also try the drivers with the Control Panel (not with the sluggish Control Center). If that doesn't work you could also try the OmegaDrivers or one of the ATI NGO Optimized Driver :) |

@jarandasun8 - my recommendations are as follows... ;)
1. Use Dirver Cleaner to TOTALLY remove your ATI Drivers. 2. Download OMEGA Drivers for your Radeon. 3. Install and enjoy. I personally wouldn't go within ten miles of Catalyst Control Centre! ::) It's bloatware - the old control panel that ATI used to use is better. :D Of course, you could also DL the drivers on their own, and the ATI CPanel separately - that still works! ;D |

Yeah, baby!! I installed the Omega drivers and I'm back up and running smooth as silk. Not sure what happened before but as long as I'm back up, I'm not going to dig to much into it for now unless it causes more problems down the road then maybe just reformat, but for now, I'm working. Thanks guys for the help. I haven't used the Omega drivers in a long time. These are sweet plus it's showing frame rates up in the right hand corner on all my games so that's way cool.
Thanks again guys. |
