extra heatsinks for V5500?
02.11.13 at 18:23:15

while i didn't do any mod to my V5500AGP, i would like to know if it would be a good idea to use some leftovers chipset heatsinks (with some thermal paste) on the back of it where the GPUs are?

i don't have those small heatsinks for RAM though.

Since it would stay on the back of my card, it wouldn't need to be thermal glue, just paste would be ok i think...right?

if the card is placed in a tower case, then the backside would be up, so a small heatsink with very thin layer of thermal grease would do the job if ya ask me.

yes it's a small Scaleo tower that i painted the metal case panel (for some reason it's all in 1 piece) blue.

I could use my Zalman STG-1 on it.

tell me, is there some cheap heatsinks with attachments to the holes that i could put there?
All i have here are those with metal hooks, and others that i checked with pins that doesn't seem to align with the holes on the card.

Then it is doing it's job......taking heat away from the card.....and I have never seen heatsinks attached any other way then with grease or glue, sooo.....

no i mean since i'm using stock heatsinks glued on the GPUs...the holes on the card, made for the heatsinks, are still available, so i thought i could use heatsinks that could use those holes, but i think i have none for now...

I know you mean that, but as the really annoying thing about those holes is...they are not the default distance from each other, resulting in the fact that heatsink/fan combi's that actually fit in those holes with their connectors, are not too many.

have a look around the forums, Orb coolers from .....are one of the few if I remember correctly.

The distance between the holes make the search for a cooler not easy.
I adjust manualy the holes on the coolers to fit to the card.
The nb coolers are adjustable for diffrrent holes.

What did you find until now ?

the only chipset coolers i have here are some who doesn't have holes or hooks (glue on them initially), some with hooks (i pushed the little metal hooks inside so they wouldn't move or vibrate around while on the card) and the ones with holes, they can't be adjusted.
I do know some have longer holes so they can be fit on any boards with holes for the chipset, but i don't have those. They're 3rd-party coolers normally.
