Title: 3dfx Power Supply? Post by PanoramixDruida on 10.09.09 at 06:39:09
Hey!, I'm from Argentina and I saw at the local e-Bay alike web page (MercadoLibre) a guy that sells a 3dfx 500W Power Supply. I'm really surprised because the box has printed the newer 3dfx logo on it what it makes it look more real. Did you know about 3fdx producing power supplies?. And if it's a 500W it should have no more than 2 years old. Here's the link (in spanish): http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-58205236-fuente-atx-24pin-3dfx-500w-reales-_JM

I've asked the seller if they trully are 3dfx brand ones and he/she has replied that "for the way it looks like, it's a 3dfx one. The product is excellent". :o . Is it possible?.

100% fake, in fact it's such a bad fake that a product labeled Panasoanic, Sany or SanSung looks almost real compared to that bad joke.

It's a fake: Nobody in the year 2000 thought about a 24pin ATX, everybody had 20pin back then ;)

Except for several Compaq systems that have a proprietary 24-pin 'ATX' (with different layout and thus incompatible with the normal 24-pin ATX) connector :). You could get those systems in 1999 or 2000 if I remember correctly.

Auction says:
24pin ATX connector, SATA plug and 120mm fan. There were no PSU with these specs in 2000, and SATA standard was born in 2003. Sticker on PSU says that unit have 500W output power. There were no reasons to design PSU like this back in 2000. Also, sticker says that unit is compatible with ATX 2.03 standard. ATX 2.01 was released in 2004. Last but not least, it is Made In China...3dfx equipment from China? LOL! |

You're all right!. But what if they're getting back to bussines building this small kind of stuff?. I wonder if 3dfx company in 2009 could use 2000 logo.

They couldn't, nobody can use 3dfx logo or name, it is Nvidia property.

With what's left of 3dfx, what is the company doing these days? The last thing I heard was in the spring of 2008, they lost a court decision to nVidia. |

3dfx don't exist as we knew it, man. It was just the creditors who took nVidia to court claiming they were owed more money. |
