Everythings working well. Time to upgrade.  hehe

I think I have A.D.D. Leadfoot seems to be working well. As is every other old glide/opengly game that I have. So I decided to upgrade. I just ordered a new msi kt3 ultra2 deluxe off of Ebay, a Barton 2600 amd cpu, and a new stick of ddr pc3200.

Does anyone have any experience with this motherboard? I looked around for awhile on old forums etc, and it looks like one of the last 3.3 capable motherboards.

On a side note. Im going to be selling the new msi kt266 ddr socket A motherboard that I have.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230342623614

I have it listed as shipping to usa only. But, if one of you guys would like to buy it. Id be happy to ship it overseas.   Wink

I ran one for years in RAID mirror, I could never confirm it ran video boards in 3.3v mode and it would alarm when a Voodoo 3 was installed.

Depends on the revisions afair. There were definitely newer revisions, which had non-3,3V-compatible southbridges. Check before usage Wink

I had no problems with mine-just make sure it is the ultra2 revision (not ultra2 aru etc) and you will be fine.

The slot is compatible. Would the board not be compatible even if it has a compatible agp slot?

Here is the board if anyone can tell. Thanks for the help guys.

yup,welcome to the revision hell.

an agp universal slot itself does not automatically guarantee compatibility with 3.3V cards..watch out.

I also decided to upgrade my K6-III 600Mhz, just for playing some of the newer Glide games (and for actually using the machine too), so I went for Abit KT7A V1.3 with a mobile barton 2600+. Unfortunately, barton seems to have been defective, so now I'm waiting for a replacement.

The good thing about this combo is that Voodoo is 100% supported on all revisions (and has ISA slot!). The bad thing is that Athlon XP is officially supported only on Rev 1.3 and the ugly is that the board over-volts everything except for 12V rail Smiley

Are you sure that the cpu is defective ? I don't think that KT7A supports Barton, especially a mobile version. KT133A chipset barely supports first Athlon XPs(Palomino and T-Bred), it might take a Barton, but it would be safe to test that cpu somewhere else before saying it's bad  Wink

Well I said it seems to be defective, couse of these reasons:
1) every revision of KT7A (even V 1.0) can at least POST with a barton:
http://www.motherboardpoint.com/kt7a-raid-barton-xp-2500-333-works-ok-t437.html
(note that this is not the only guy on the net with successful barton experience Tongue There are many, many others according to google)

2) mobile barton and a normal one are 1:1 the same architecture and pin-to-pin compatible. Mobile ones are just cherry picked ones that work on lower voltage:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athlon#Barton_and_Thorton

Quote:
Mobile Athlon XPs (Athlon XP-M) are identical to normal Athlon XPs, apart from running at lower voltages, often lower bus speeds, and not being multiplier-locked.

Therefore, CPU must have been defective.  Cool

It's not that easy Wink

It's correct, that Boards based on the KT133A work with Bartons, I have a system with an Asus A7V133 + Barton @ 2,5GHz running myself Wink

But you're wrong with your theory about mobile CPUs - some old Boards / Chipsets don't work with CPUs that have an unlocked multiplier, they just don't work or they take a low Multiplier, that can't be changed.

But if I'm not mistaking, the CPU in my System is a Mobile version, too Cheesy But I don't remember exactly though, it's been some time since I had it opened..

Judging from the info on the net, I would say that they work perfectly well with unlocked multipliers; the only thing is the cross-reference for it:
http://mysite.verizon.net/res0exft/Multiplier_cross_reference.htm
So a mobile barton with a base multiplier >13 would use 7x multiplier for 15x effectively.

I'm just telling from my personal experience Wink

The higher multipliers on my A7V133 only work "hardwired" (Socket pins connected on the back of the board).

In every other setting, it will only use the lower multipliers.

Today I received feedback from the seller of the Barton I've returned. He tested it and confirmed that it doesnt work. So CPU *was* defective Smiley

Im waiting now for the Barton 1.35V ordered from China, but since it takes an eternity to get here so I also bought a tbred 2400+ to fill the gap until that one comes  Wink Tomorrow Im hopefully installing Tbred with Thermaltake Big Typhoon. Then I'm off for some serious V5 5500 testing  Cool Erhm... Playing...  Cool
