Title: 3dfx Voodoo3 with T&L Chip Perfromance? Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 18.04.06 at 12:53:29
hello all maybe not many have heard of this very odd Voodoo3 card with T&L Chip:
but how would it perform actually since it does have a T&L chip would it's performance be dramaticly higher than any other V3 out there? |

i don't think that 3dmark e.g. will use it because of lack of driver implementation...
who owns this card? i wanna have it, lol ;D (anyway, who doesn't want it... ;) ) i found a bigger pic: |

hmm lol everyone would want that piece, but that isn't my concern, just wanted more info of it :)
Look at the Voodoo3 chipset it's lain 90 degrees upwards, also abit odd isn't it , I wonder what the reason for that was, maybe to create a non interfearance with the T&L chip? Maybe these units were used as Prototypes to simulate a 3dfx Spectre 2000 aka Rampage with Sage T&L chip since the idea is kinda the sam AND the Rampage project started just after Voodoo2, who knows. |

Am I just seeing things, or this card actually has two VGA outputs and a TV-out? Multy monitor support? That's the second unique thing on this V3!

yeah it has a DFP Connector... (Predecessor of DVI)

Title: Re: 3dfx Voodoo3 with T&L Chip Perfromance? Post by Obi-Wan_Kenobi on 19.04.06 at 20:44:08
hmm DVP yeah like on that Copper 4800 of yours :), wasn't the max Resolution for DFP-Out 1280 x 1024 x32? I thought I read that some where . though not that sure :-X
I wonder if DVP screens were ever put in production, never really seen a DVP screen in my live, matbe DVP was skipped and put aside for DVI to take place, dunno really, but that may have been the purpose, anybody else idea's on that? @ Gary Sorry 'bout my grumpy post back there, had too many things on my mind there. |

Hey Grumpy ;D
I have the card. The microcode for the geometry engine was never finished. I patched a BIOS to get it to boot, but the geometry bridge will run only in a pass through mode. The V3 drivers also must be patched to recognize Mitsubishi signature. Hank |

do you know how many cards have been built?

yeah norries there Hank But hmm interesting, would it be still possible to finnish that geometry code? Maybe you could give it a shot :P unless if it is a possibillity ofcourse :) Was this T&L idea also planned for Napalm products? and can it be compared to the Sage chip which was planned for the T&L Geometry chip for the Rampage line? |

I have some question for you guys...
Can this vga work in 3D mode? Are the performance compeareable with a standard Voodoo 3? Thanks, Max. |

While we're bombarding Hank with questions, I'll throw in a couple too;
Would you be willing to (and are you able to) post some high resolution pictures (1024x768 or higher) of the front and back of this card? Somewhat related; do you know anything about the RealVision VREngine VD1 & VD2 cards? |

there is a Voodoo2 also aka this one NitroX Infinity :)
I know it is french dunno if someone could translate, the brand of the cards is named Real Vision ;) Ah Here's al the info we need!!! http://www.3dfx-altar.com/content/voodoo2tl/ "Around Q1 2000, a company called RealVision spread their news: The Voodoo2™ card design from 3dfx would be modified by the company and released on the marked with the extension of a GA400 T&L chip. It wasn't supposed to bring any revolutionary graphics to the market, but it would have been a nice gadget for the hardcore pc enthousiasts. Allthough we never saw it hit the market, here are the specs given by the company. Real Vision GA400 Specifications Board name "VREngine" One or two Voodoo 2 chipsets (onboard-SLI) 180 - 360Megapixels Per Second Fill Rate 256K x 256K textures Geometry engine "GA400" 9.1 Gigaflops resulting in 12 million polygons per second Transformation, clipping, culling, volume clipping and specular lighting (parallel, spot, point) 16 simultanous light sources supported T&L chip has its own memory interface (64bit SDRAM) NEC's PEC-Rasterizer for faster triangle setup over the voodoo 2 Up to 8 "GA400" geometry engines scalable"[/b] and here not much info on that V3 T&L card though: http://www.3dfx-altar.com/content/voodoo3tl/ |
